I believe in Story. It’s shaped me. It’s WHY I use the power of story to differentiate you in your LinkedIn Profile so you're distinguishable and discoverable. Why is STORY key to personal branding? No one has your story, only you. We are 99.9% the same DNA, a reassuring fact, but when it comes to personal branding, the magic comes when we ZERO in on your 0.1%! It's what makes you distinctively YOU! It’s your purest gold, mined to tell your story, along with the ideas, books, experiences and people who inspire, inform and shape your life. I can trace my journalism career back to my first newspaper story when I was only 13, but the power of story reaches back even further. I was 4 when my father suddenly died in a car accident. I remember him but HOW I know him (and his remarkable brand) is through STORY. That’s why I say Story has shaped me. In connecting the dots of my life, I see how stories about him shaped qualities within me. Recently, that became even more apparent. In letters I found written about him, I discovered footprints from his career resemble my own, in my career choices of marketing and radio journalism. Today, I leverage those journalism and marketing skills - working 1:1 with entrepreneurs and executives, guiding them to articulate their brand story so on LinkedIn, they are seen, heard, remembered, and hired. Their story accelerates the ‘know-like-trust’ advantage, critical to one's career, business, and online relationship building. Coming from three generations of teachers, I also love to learn and share what I learn, so I enjoy being invited to speak at conferences and to lead workshops, emboldening leaders with insight to leverage this platform to grow their brand, business and career. I’m an idea generator, and natural connector of people and ideas. Story is in my DNA, and long past my days as a CBC journalist, a friend continues to call me Scoop Austin! I hang out in creative realms like live performance halls, dine where fine food, wine, and scintillating conversation abound; I love travel, being in nature, walking while listening to books and podcasts, and discovering what’s new.
