Marketing CTO (Chief Technology Officer) is a role that combines expertise in technology with a deep understanding of marketing strategies. Unlike a traditional CTO, who focuses on the overall technology infrastructure and strategy for a company, a Marketing CTO is specifically concerned with leveraging technology to enhance marketing efforts.

In my case, having a background in technology and business (starting as a software developer and then leading teams of 200 colleagues, being responsible for building various teams, delivering high quality software and managing budgets) and spicing it up with expertise in sales and marketing makes my role at the intersection of these worlds.

Being so, one of the key aspects of the role is “Cross-Functional Collaboration” between different business lines, departments and bringing value closer from one to another.

Elena is leading the DEI stream, part of Cegeka’s Group ESG initiative. She is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive DEI strategy within the Group: diversity at the leadership level, diversity across the organization, inclusion in multi-cultural teams, inclusive leadership, …

More skills, more impact, more success. I’ve spent years pushing for it, and I’ve seen countless others do the same. But somewhere along the way, I realized something important: it’s not the chase itself that defines us. It's the why behind it.

I've learned that ambition without a purpose is a dangerous game. 
It’s what leads us to chase things that will never truly fulfill us. It's why so many of us end up on the treadmill, only to realize we're exhausted and empty.
I've been in that place where the goals keep moving. 
Where effort turns into overextension because the payoff feels fleeting. 
Where I gained titles but lost a clear sense of who I was.

Ambition is fuel. But without a clear "why," it's like driving fast in someone else’s car, on someone else’s road. You might get somewhere, but it won't be where you needed to go.

This isn't about giving up on ambition. It’s about making sure your ambition is your own.

So, I’ve started a new habit: I ask myself, "Am I chasing this because I genuinely value it, or because I’d feel guilty or look bad if I didn’t?"

It’s a simple question, but the answer is a powerful roadmap.

I loved a recent post from Grant Lee, the CEO of Gamma. It came at a time when I was obsessing over the recent decision i made, more specifically, how to productize my services to stop spreading myself so thin.

I was trying to be everything to everyone, and it was exhausting.

Then I read his post, and everything clicked.

It wasn’t about a growth hack or a secret tactic.
It was a fundamental strategic decision I had completely missed:

👉 Are you chasing rabbits (thousands of small, individual customers)?
👉 Or are you hunting whales (a few massive enterprise accounts)?


📌 The Law of Value Creation

The physics of your go-to-market strategy are dictated by one simple question: When does a user get value?

🔸 If a single user can get a “wow” moment in ten minutes, you’re built for rabbits.
Think Figma, Notion, or Gamma. Their value is immediate and viral; they thrive on single-player mode.

🔸 If value only emerges after a complex, company-wide integration, you’re hunting whales.
 Workday and Palantir demand organizational commitment to deliver ROI. They’re a massive undertaking—and the value is equally massive.


📌 The Physics of Go-to-Market

Your choice here defines everything you build.

🐇 For rabbits, it’s all about velocity.

- Transparent pricing
- Frictionless signup
- Product that scales itself
- Metrics: activation rate & K-factor


🐋 For whales, it’s all about relationship.

- Enterprise sales
- Custom pricing
- ROI calculators
- Metrics: pipeline coverage & contract values

The tools for these two jobs are not interchangeable.


📌 Expansion Isn’t an Accident

A common fantasy is to do both at once. Don’t.
You can’t optimize for both speed and procurement simultaneously.

The irony: total commitment to one path is what eventually allows you to conquer the other.

Rabbit companies (Slack, Atlassian) waited until pull from Fortune 500 justified enterprise sales.
Whale companies rarely succeed with self-serve unless they uncover a truly viral use case.


The Hidden Risks

⚠️ Rabbits → unit economics risk. High user growth can mask losses if support costs scale linearly.

⚠️ Whales → concentration risk. When one customer is 30% of your revenue, they own your roadmap and your fate.


I honestly use and love Gamma.

Their product is a perfect example of a rabbit strategy executed flawlessly:

✅ Viral by design
✅ Immediate value (transforming text into a beautiful presentation in seconds)
✅ Scaled to millions without a massive sales team


For me, the biggest lesson is this:
✨ Understand your product’s true nature. Commit fully to the path it demands. The rest will follow.

The world is stubborn.
Change rarely happens because people want it to — it happens because there is no other way.


🚨 The Warnings They Ignored

For years, I’ve been telling executives the same truths:
	•	Leadership must shift from control → trust.
	•	From expertise → discernment.
	•	From hierarchy → adaptability.

At the time, these ideas felt uncomfortable.
Some nodded politely.
Some dismissed them.
Others said, “That sounds nice, but it won’t work here.”

And yet — here we are.



🌍 The Old Playbook Is Broken

The cracks are visible everywhere:
	•	Disengagement at scale.
	•	AI reshaping work faster than policies can keep up.
	•	Boards demanding not just numbers but values.
	•	Employees asking not just what they’re doing but why.

The advice that once sounded like “future talk” has now become the only strategy left standing.



🪞 Why Did It Take So Long?

Because ego sits in the middle.
	•	Ego resists fresh ideas.
	•	Ego prefers the comfort of what has always worked.
	•	Ego tells leaders: “I built my success this way, so it must be the only way.”

Ego blinds organizations to what’s coming — until the cost of ignoring it is impossible to pay.



🔊 The Voices We Need Now

The voices of the past told us to optimize, scale, and control. They built the world we live in.

But they cannot build the world we are entering.

The voices of the future sound different.
They talk about:
	•	Trust.
	•	Resilience.
	•	Adaptability.
	•	Inclusivity.
	•	Presence.

And here’s the AHA: in the new era, public image and company image are the same thing.

You can no longer polish a corporate brand while your leaders act differently. Gen Z — the future of the workforce and the customer base — doesn’t buy the separation. They expect alignment. They expect authenticity. They expect leaders and companies to stand for the same values, inside and out.

If your culture and your PR don’t match, they will see it — and they will leave.



⚡ The Uncomfortable Truth

The future doesn’t wait for approval.
It moves forward with or without us.

So the question is:
👉 Do we cling to the comforting voices of the past?
👉 Or do we amplify the disruptive, uncomfortable voices of the future — the ones who call for alignment, authenticity, and accountability?

Because this generation doesn’t just want a salary. They want meaning. They want leaders who walk the talk. They want companies whose external voice matches their internal reality.


✨ The future has its own voice.
Some are already listening.

The only question is: will you?
