Today there are more jobless Americans than there are job openings.

This seismic shift is a part of a historic collision between economic forces and rapid AI disruption.

Students need to get internships and first job earlier to get access into workforce before college graduation.

Up to 78% of hiring managers now expect AI to cut student internships and entry-level jobs—tasks like research, data entry, and basic communications are increasingly automated (SHRM) 

A Stanford University study finds a 13% drop in entry-level employment in the most AI-exposed fields since late 2022, while older workers in those same roles have remained secure (Fortune)

It used to be simple. 

You graduated, 
landed an entry-level role, 
and started climbing the ladder.

But today? That ladder is disappearing. 

According to CNBC, entry-level job postings are down 35% since January 2023 are replaced or reshaped by AI.

That means students  can’t wait until after graduation to “get experience.” 

They need internships, real-world practice, and AI-readiness long before they cross the stage in cap and gown.

That’s why our children started to work 16. 

Their first jobs at places like waiting tables at Five Guys and cashier at T.J. Maxx.

Those entry level summer jobs led to their internships at NASA and Apple.

The future of work won’t be kind to those who wait until graduation.

But with the right mix of soft skills + practical experience, young people can still build strong, resilient careers.

🔵Nevada’s Job Market: Mixed Signals, Big Shifts

Nevada’s job market is sending mixed signals and if you’re looking for clarity, you’re not alone.

Silver state is quickly becoming a hybrid hub. With lower costs than California, national employers are bringing flexible roles here, opening doors for local professionals to access opportunities that once demanded relocation.

At the same time, unemployment sits at 5.4% - one of the nation’s highest. 

So what’s really happening behind these numbers?

🔴Hospitality: 

- Employment in hospitality, tourism, sports, and creative industries grew to over 463,780 jobs in 2025, rising 7.7% over the past decade. Las Vegas alone added 30,000+ jobs.
- Yet wages and roles now demand new skills: digital fluency, leadership, service innovation, and data-driven client experiences (Nevada Hospitality Report, 2025).
To thrive, hospitality professionals must upgrade in digital operations, automation, or project management.

🟠 Logistics & Warehousing: 
- Booming along I-11 growth is being powered by the I-11 corridor (a new interstate connecting Phoenix to Las Vegas, with future extensions north and south).
- Companies are hiring supply chain strategists, warehouse automation experts, and tech-savvy logistics pros (CompStak, 2025).

🟡 Tech & FinTech:
Henderson and Summerlin have become Nevada’s tech hubs, attracting AI, clean energy, and fintech startups.
Together, they’re fueling a projected 2.2% economic growth (LVGEA, 2025).

🟢 Construction: Modest Rebound, Ongoing Challenges
- The sector added 400 new jobs in July 2025 (+0.4% month over month).
Still, contractors face labor shortages and rising costs, even as demand in infrastructure and advanced manufacturing continues (NV Workforce, 2025).

🟣 Education: A Decade of Growth
- Education has expanded 46% over the last decade, reaching 52,562 jobs statewide.
- In Las Vegas, employment jumped 57.5% from 2015 to 2025, thanks to investment in schools and programs.
- Teacher salaries now start near $43,000 and can exceed $75,000 depending on district and experience (Nevada Workforce Report, 2025).
