Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

The AUAS is the largest university of applied sciences in the Netherlands, with over 48,000 students and 4500 employees. As the English Editor and Coordinator at the AUAS’s central communications department, I am responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to my mission to improve the university’s English communications:

•	Supervising a team of English editors and translators. 
•	Boosting the quality and quantity of information on the university’s central external and internal sites (amsterdamuas.com and MyAUAS). 
•	Creating international content: English writing, editing and content management. 
•	Coordinating a network of stakeholders across faculties and departments to source, publish and fine-tune info for international students and colleagues. 
•	Advising on Dutch to English translation policy, coordinating translations and managing the AUAS Terminology List of nearly 1000 Dutch to English translations. 
•	Quality control: monitoring the quality of translation agencies and providing feedback. 
•	Editing and advising for AUAS’s external international networks, such as U!REKA and UASNL.  
•	Promoting international best practices on external and internal websites.
•	Co-authoring and launching the AUAS English Style Guide, a resource to help Dutch colleagues improve their written English. 
•	Advising on strategy and processes concerning university-wide communications in English.

English Editor and Coordinator

U!REKA (Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance) 

The Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance (U!REKA) is a network of urban-focused higher education institutions across Europe, co-founded by the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. As part of my role at the AUAS, I was a member of the network's Communications Working Group. 

Duties included: writing and editing articles and newsletters; managing the ureka.eu website; contributing to social media channels; and promoting U!REKA within the AUAS. A highlight of this job was contributing to the network's successful 2023 European University Alliance bid, called U!REKA SHIFT.

TEDxAmsterdamWomen

Writer, editor and translator in the Communications team for TEDxAmsterdamWomen 2018.

TEDxAmsterdam Women is a global conference that provides a stage for women to inspire; it specifically focuses on the unique way in which women contribute to global change and are helping reshape the future. In the Netherlands, a large group of professional volunteers dedicate their time and energy to set up this event. Since the first event in 2010, TEDxAmsterdamWomen has annually produced and delivered a stunning and inspiring conference, bringing forth well-known and critically acclaimed speakers.

Writer and Editor

LeasePlan Corporation N.V.

As Editor and Communications Adviser at LeasePlan, I was a member of the Corporate Communications team at LeasePlan's global headquarters.

A typical day included:

• Providing editorial services such as writing, editing and proofreading across diverse media (speeches for senior management, annual reports, press releases, video scripts, website texts, feature interviews, e-mails, articles and more)
• Advising colleagues at both the corporate centre and local offices 
• Managing a global internal content pipeline and team of international contributors for the global intranet (serving 32 countries and 7,400 employees) 
• Planning, writing and editing content for an internal global magazine sharing best practices, people stories, business news and innovations
• Creating key messages and Q&A formats to support local communications teams during times of change and crisis
• Monitoring internal and external channels to ensure quality and consistency of strategic messaging 
• Providing editorial resources to improve communications, such as a content library, editorial style guides, a thesaurus and an acronym list for decoding corporate jargon
• Dutch to English translations and tips to help non-native colleagues improve their English

Editor and Communications Adviser, Corporate Communications

Stampa Communications

As an Account Manager at Stampa, I played a key role in several strategic content and PR accounts. Most of my time was devoted to creating engaging content for a leading FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) company: daily articles for a European intranet serving 21 countries; newsletters; magazines; brochures; quarterly performance updates; news flashes; strategic e-mails and more.

Other responsibilities across varied accounts included:

• Identifying and adapting internal content suitable for external use (websites/brochures)
• Interviewing CEOs and senior executives for strategic communications such as speeches, annual reports, intranet articles and case studies
• Rewriting websites by busting corporate jargon and replacing it with comprehensible copy 
• Planning, writing and editing annual reports for diverse clients and liaising closely with designers throughout the publication stage
• Daily media monitoring, reporting and strategic analysis for PR clients 
• Drafting and issuing press releases, identifying key journalists for follow-up
• Dutch to English translations, delivered quickly

Communications Account Manager

As an Account Executive at CitySavvy I supported the team on a number of PR and communications accounts. My tasks included:

•	Writing and editing magazines, intranet content, websites, newsletters and press releases 
•	Distributing press releases and contacting journalists to arrange interviews 
•	Media monitoring and analysis, Dutch to English translations of client news coverage
•	Managing a complex media contact database (CRM)

Duties included: 
• Working with the Manager to lead the successful completion of monthly sales targets
• Supervising and motivating staff
• Shift planning
• Recruitment, trainings and evaluations
• Monthly inventory

I was employed by the Sociology Department Head (St. Thomas Moore branch) as a Marking Assistant for an introductory sociology course.

This job involved content analysis, constructive criticism, and grading of exams for 125 students during the academic year.
