After a decade in the service industry, I realized I was working for my business. I was my own boss, but I wasn’t a good one. I had built a monster, and some days it felt like it was sitting on my chest. I bought some farm land over the years, mainly as a way to force my business to set aside a retirement for my family, because if I didn't, the business would always try to grow, soaking up all the cash. Fast forward a few years and much of my net worth was from equity growth in these real estate investments, and not necessarily from the business I’d worked so hard to grow, and they weren’t even great deals... After working hard to build up a good business, streamlining it and building in good training and great SOP’s, I still didn’t enjoy it, so I finally sold. I experimented with different asset classes over the years, a duplex, an AirBnB, even a gas station that I still own today, and settled on apartment buildings as the best wealth building tool for my family. We still use farm land to diversify, but the apartments create the cash flow. Now I get to use my experience to help others make wise investments in legacy-building commercial apartment buildings.
