I still get a kick out of saying I’m in advertising. I’m one of Australia’s most experienced media planners. I’ve worked in the industry since 1998 for national power agencies. A few clients love what I do so much that they’ve followed me from agency to agency and now to my own company. Ocean Spray has been with me for over 23 years, and that loyalty says it all. It says I know what I’m doing. I look after people. I build powerful client relationships, and I’m fun. My job is to cut through the clutter and plan media so brands can reach their audience most cost-effectively. You might have also met me at the supermarket. It horrifies my daughter, but I’m fascinated by why people buy certain brands. I’ll sidle up to you in the craisins aisle and chat. I see it as being an ambassador who lives and breathes my brands. Media planning is an art. There are a ton of digital agencies and Facebook specialists, but that’s all they know. I’m an expert at planning and buying across all platforms—TV, outdoor, radio, cinema, print, digital. My mission for 2023 is to help businesses not just grab spots and dots but truly understand how to plan and buy media properly. How did I get here? After studying advertising, my first media job was at an outdoor billboard company. Since then, I’ve been a talented team member or specialist consultant at agencies including MediaCom, Maxus, Vizeum and iProspect. In 2016 I founded Media Words. I bring big agency media smarts to your business, big or small. I get paid to do my favourite things: talking and solving problems. I bridge the gap between professional and personal relationships and am an old school planner who knows strong commercial results take more than data. Work influences what I do away from it. I love food magazines—I’m that person with a pantry packed with random jars that get used once, play tennis (I once worked at Tennis Australia) and sail (good at reading which way the wind is blowing).
