During the final year of my degree I worked part-time looking after ad campaigns for 28 different clients, spanning a range of industries. I was running high-converting, super-targeted Lead Ads to their ideal customers on Facebook, running all aspects of the campaigns.

Key Skills; 
- Customer relationship management – understanding the client & their business well. Crystal clear communication.

- Copywriting – creating compelling ad copy & images for split testing.

- Audience targeting – understanding clients’ customer avatar & targeting them with pin-point accuracy within Facebook.

- Data analytics – constantly interpreting the metrics of the ads to determine which are performing best.

- Reporting – feeding complex data back to clients in an easy-to-digest way.

MyCognition

I completed a 12 month full-time placement at MyCognition – a cognitive fitness company who had developed their own multi-platform app – as part of my degree. 

Key Roles; 
- Social Media – responsible for organic and paid social media activity, including creating daily content, monitoring user engagement, as well as paid campaigns, split testing etc.

- Copywriting – creating copy for the website, weekly blogs and marketing collateral.

- Email marketing – creating, writing and scheduling email marketing campaigns using Mail Chimp.

- Data analytics – tracking and reporting on our social media engagement, email campaigns, app performance and website SEO.

- Website – designed and built the company WordPress website in conjunction with an external contractor. I was then responsible for maintaining and updating it.

- Events – I was responsible for all the logistics, management and marketing of the company’s presence at six major events, including BETT, the largest EdTech event in world.

My client insisted on dropping his price from £4,500 to £500.

I told him it was a terrible idea.

He did it anyway.

Here's what happened:

We sold the exact same number at every price point.

£4,500? 3 sales. 

£500? 3 sales.

But here's the kicker:

At £4,500 → Zero refunds. Zero complaints. 10/10 feedback.

At £500 → First refund ever. First complaint ever. Constant nagging.

The cheapest price attracted the worst customers.

Interesting, eh?

I love complex marketing funnels more than just about anybody I know... but sometimes brutal simplicity is the way to go. 

One client had built the perfect VSL.

Professional video. Detailed landing page. Multi-step sequence.

But leads weren't converting to calls.

So we tried instant lead forms.

"Need help? Drop your details and I'll call you in 5 minutes."

Phone verification required.

The moment someone submits → He gets a text.

He calls them immediately.

While the pain is fresh.

The sophisticated funnel was creating friction.

The simple form removed it.

Sometimes the best marketing strategy is just being available when your prospect is ready to talk.

Not when you're ready to present...

Over the last few weeks, I have been increasingly annoying my colleagues as I spend more and more time speaking at my computer rather than typing.... 😂

But this little picture explains exactly why. 

255% Increase in my "typing"output vs the average. 

If you're not using AI-powered dictation apps, like Wispr Flow, you are missing out on a lot of productivity and efficiency gains. 

I personally find it extremely liberating to just be able to speak my thoughts and not have to worry about finessing my grammar and spelling. 

It's quicker. 
It's more natural.
It's more fun.
And it just feels easier. 

It's such a hack. 

Although you do have to get over the fact that you look a bit stupid if you're doing it in an office full of people 😂

One of our clients discovered they'd been giving away their course for free.

For months.

His payment plan system broke in July.

People signed up. Got access. Never got charged.

Thousands down the drain.

His webinars were converting better than ever.

But the money wasn't coming in.

The worst part? He had no idea until September.

Your payment processor can fail silently.

Your checkout page can break on mobile.

And you won't know until you dig into the numbers.

The most expensive marketing mistake isn't a bad ad.

It's a broken system you don't know about.

I'm forever surprised at how the most dry, un-creative, simple, direct ad copy will often work the best...

Especially when everyone's using ChatGPT and it's coming up with ridiculous, cringey metaphors and analogies 😅

I saw this again with one of my clients last week. 

The dry, technical headline absolutely crushed the polished, creative one.

Your audience typically want their problems solved MORE than they want to be entertained. 

Useful tends to beat clever.

Stop writing for yourself.

Start writing for your customer.

The "perfect" marketing strategy means nothing if your tech is broken...

One of our clients just lost £3,000.

His payment plan system had been broken since June.

Every "sale" was actually a free trial.

He had record webinar conversions. 

Amazing feedback.

But ZERO money coming in.

I've seen it countless times:

→ Broken SMS links = 50% drop in attendance 

→ Wrong Facebook pixel = burning money on useless traffic

→ Slow landing page = losing 80% of clicks

You can have epic ads and killer copy.

But one technical glitch destroys everything.

Check your systems. Then check them again. And then do it again
