What if H&M had a luxury rebrand? 👀

H&M has been taking over my feed as the IT girl for affordable trends.

So how would it look if it was a luxury brand?


Here's 3 things I altered to give that real high end feel: 💸

1. Deepened the tone of red
While keeping iconic to the brand, using a deeper and richer (no pun intended) tone of red instantly reads as luxury and people associate it with a higher end brand 🙌

2. Keep things simple
Have you ever noticed that the likes of Hermes don't splash their logo all over everything? Using that here lets the classiness of the rebrand speak for itself 💅

3. Embraced custom type
Instead of adding elements to the logo I customised the type to make a unique graphic mark to represent the brand, simple yet effective 🤝

What does consistent branding actually mean? 🤔

It's a term that's thrown around a lot in the design world, but what does it ACTUALLY mean to be consistent visually?

Here's what it looks like to me:

👉 Strong, recognisable colours and fonts that you use EVERYWHERE (your socials, website, packaging etc. - I mean everything!! 👀)

👉 Consistent logo usage - if you use one logo on LinkedIn and another on your Instagram it's instantly a red flag for me 🚩

👉 Recognisable across platforms - if I see a post of yours on Instagram and then a blog of yours online, I want to instantly connect the visuals together 🙌

I've been guilty myself of telling people to just 'be more consistent' with their branding 🤦‍♀️

But without knowing what that is, how can you do that?

Education is always key to success 👏

I started my business by accident 👀

June 2020, the middle of lockdown, and just finished my first year of university.

My tutors had been banging on about making an online portfolio - and I had some time to kill 🤷‍♀️

I started posting some of my branding projects on a Insta account and Eloise Jade Design was born...

👉 I made passion projects
👉 Re-did uni briefs I thought I could have done better
👉 Created things I was passionate about

Then I got a dm

"How much do you charge for a logo?"

I was honestly shocked, people would PAY me for this sort of thing?! 🤯

Now,  over 4 years later, my business is thriving more than ever.

Not bad for an accident huh? 🤷‍♀️

Tad dramatic for a Wednesday - but recently I just couldn't shake this quote 🤔

After finishing all my formal education, I missed the trials and tribulations that come with learning something brand new

So I signed up for a 7 week plastering course - because what else would you do?! 🤣


As part of encouraging adult learners, Kirklees College offer night courses in a variety of trade skills.

From painting to plumbing, tiling to powertools - look out Nick Knowles I'm about to become a DIY pro 💪


These past 7 weeks have been a STEEP learning curve

From my hate-hate relationship with outdoor rendering, to finally mastering my trowel and hand board - it was a journey to say the least 😅

But I'm proud to say at the end of the 7 weeks - I plastered a whole bloody wall! 🙌


Now, will I miss the two tonnes of plaster that I came home covered in? Absolutely not 🤣

But have I learnt a new skill and didn't die doing it? Absolutely


I made the most unlikely friends, had fun, and learnt something new - all on a Tuesday night.

1 in 10 people have a condition that UK doctors don’t know how to treat 😶

And that condition is exactly what I faced for 21 years of my life.


For my whole life I’ve been labelled a “picky” eater.

I never shared Christmas dinner with my family 🙅‍♀️

I could find fries in ANY country as I never dared to try any food that was unfamiliar.

2 years ago I discovered the term ARFID

Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder

An eating disorder, but not as I ever knew it.


It was like someone had turned the light on in my brain, every symptom from fear around food, obsession with a few safe foods, issues with texture and how foods looked and smelled.

It was all describing me.

So I went to my GP, searching for a way out of this experience I’d been living for so long.

And they told me they’d never heard of it 😶


They said it sounded like OCD, or autism, or even anorexia. They referred me for CBT with OCD as the ‘most likely’ cause and tried to pin other symptoms on me to make me fit the bill.

I had never felt so betrayed by my own doctor, the person who was supposed to know how to help me.

So I took matters into my own hands 🤷‍♀️


I sought out a private hypnotherapy specialist who knew everything there was to know about ARFID

He’d even done a bloody TED talk on it!

And now I’m in recovery.

My favourite food is burgers and sandwiches- having so many different flavours in one bite honestly nearly made my brain explode 🤣


How there can be such a lack of education on an eating disorder that so many people live with honestly baffles me 🤯

So remember, just because the people that should be able to help you can’t- doesn’t mean you’re beyond help.

Adding texture!

All too often I see designers create branding, add colour and call it a day 🤷‍♀️

And for a long time I did too.

But there's something about the flatness of block colour on block colour that screams for more...

Add a film grain here
Crumpled paper there
Heck even a distressed concrete if the brief suits

I always thought that clean and crisp = good design

And don't get me wrong - sometimes it's what the brief calls for 💁‍♀️

But when that client lands in your lap...

They want depth, interest, something a little bit different

Pull out a bit of texture from your back pocket.

It will take your designs to another level 🙌

How well would you work with your eyes closed? 🫣

Not very well I'm guessing...

But that's how your branding would be applied if you didn't have a brand guidelines document to work from 🤷‍♀️


Sue your web designer is using Royal Blue, while John your social media manager is using Cyan - all the while your brand colour is actually Navy 🤦‍♀️

Applying branding can get like chinese whispers - especially when you have multiple employees or use freelancers.

Without a guide to point people to - everyone thinks they know best 😬


I always describe brand guidelines as your brand bible

The one stop shop for the do's and don'ts for everything visual to do with your brand 🙌

Without it, you're working blind.


From your brand colours and fonts, to how to use your logos, photography styles, brand application, social media...

It can be customised to suit whatever you need.

If you don't have brand guidelines you're trusting everyone who uses your brand to apply it properly - spoiler alert - that's never gonna happen


So spare the confusion, lack of direction and open your eyes.

The number 1 content creation mistake you need to avoid 👀

All too often I see social media posts with text and emojis splashed all over the page

The title almost fills the screen and is as big as it can be - because that makes your audience pay more attention right?

Nope - if anything it makes them keep scrolling 🤷‍♀️


When you make all your elements as big as possible it makes your design too busy 

Everything is competing with each other and it's all just too much 🤯

The information you're putting across gets lost

So how do we stop our obsession with bigger meaning better? 🤔


Next time you're about to save a design take a step back.

Make everything on the page 25% smaller and see how it looks

Keep doing this until your design has space to breathe

Empty space isn't scary - it makes your message 10x more effective 🙌



You wouldn't fill a room to the brim with furniture, so don't do the same on your designs, okay? 🤝

How 2 hours of work got me over 40k Pinterest impressions 👀

But there's a catch - it took 6 months for the impressions to roll in...


Pinterest is a platform I've not really dabbled in.

I spent a few days last October resizing my designs and uploading them.

I uploaded no more than 30 pins and that was pretty much it - I thought nothing of it 🤷‍♀️


Last week I got an email from Pinterest - 'your pins are getting noticed'

Clicked through and there it was - 40 THOUSAND people had seen my content that I hadn't done a thing with since last October! 🤯


So if you're in a Pinterest hole and not seeing the results you want - give it time. 

Like the best things in life, good things come to those who wait 👀
