I don’t talk about this part of my story often, but it’s shaped far more of my career than I realized early on. 

I come from a wildly artistic family. My mom was a dancer and my dad an artist. My brothers followed suit in their own ways, acting and writing with a creativity that I still wish I could channel. 

When I was about five years old, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Alongside that, she was already navigating mental health challenges, and the stress of cancer only intensified them, turning life upside down.

Something shifted in me then.

I went from being a loud, fiery, center-of-attention kid (the most stereotypical Leo energy you can imagine in a pair of red cowboy boots 👢) to a deeply practical one. I started thinking about contingencies no five-year-old should be thinking about.

If something happens to my mom, will my brothers and I stay together?
Who makes sure things don’t fall apart?

While these challenges impacted my WHOLE family, my brothers stayed deeply connected to their creativity, theater, writing, and storytelling, but I became the “logical” one. The practical, straight-A student. The dependable one. 

That instinct followed me into my career.

For a long time, I optimized for approval. I did what was expected. I tried to be useful, agreeable, and easy to work with. 

It worked… but it also kept me small.

What I didn’t realize until much later is that creativity didn’t disappear. I just buried it under responsibility.

Content is what helped me reconnect with it.

Posting online forced me to experiment again. To have opinions. To take up space without waiting for permission. To solve problems publicly, in my own voice. To remember that creativity isn’t just art. It’s perspective. It’s pattern recognition. 

It’s believing you’re allowed to build something your way.

Sharing content gave me confidence, but more importantly, it gave me autonomy.

It helped me realize I didn’t have to pursue sales, leadership, or growth the way I’d seen modeled. I could do it in a way that aligned with how I think, how I teach, and how I connect with people.

Leadership and growing your business should look and feel like you.

Like the human you are at your core. 

The world is asking for a different kind of leadership now. One rooted in clarity, creativity, and the willingness to experiment instead of perform.

Sit down and be quiet: School is back in session. 

Today, we are talking about how to take a people-first approach to your Digital Transformation. 

...And because every good strategy outlines what you should do, and what you shouldn't do, here is the 3-step breakdown:

The Vision 
✅ DO: Start with an understanding of the real problems. Center your vision around a "Why" that unites the team and drives adoption. 
❌ DON'T: Half-ass the vision. If there is no connection to the purpose behind the change, your team won't adopt it at the rate you need them to.

Communication 
✅ DO: Make it bi-directional. This starts before you finalize the vision. Build psychological safety so the team feels safe giving you the good, the bad, and the ugly feedback. 
❌ DON'T: Think that "communication" means sending one email at rollout or holding a single training session. It needs to be constant to build ownership.

Small Wins 
✅ DO: Acknowledge the work people are putting in. Celebrate contributions to build momentum for the next phase of the project. 
❌ DON'T: Assume that "Company Savings" or "ROI" is enough to motivate your team. You have to celebrate the people, not just the bottom line.

When driven from the top, this framework irons out the wrinkles of a strategy that is too focused on shiny objects rather than the people using them.

It’s about building a body of work that keeps working for you when you’re busy leading, selling, and living your life.

When you show up consistently with clarity and perspective, the right people find you… sometimes months later, exactly when they’re ready.

I am BEGGING YOU to remember, it should never be about technology. It should be about people. 

Technology is a powerful tool, and I love it, but my decade of experience in technology has taught me that without a focus on people, you will miss the mark. 

It’s your people who power real change.

I get it. Tech is clean, structured, and predictable. People are… not.

But avoiding complexity doesn’t make it disappear. If anything, it just delays success.

So let’s get back to the basics. People, Process THEN technology… IN THAT ORDER:

Your team is the heartbeat of your organization. Understand what they value, what tools they actually need, and where they are starting from. Build digital literacy, foster open communication, and connect every change to a meaningful why.

🔄 Process Optimization
Before rolling out new tools, get your process in order. Clear the clutter, find the bottlenecks, and design for efficiency.

✨ Magic happens when great processes meet the right tech. ✨

👩🏻‍💻 Technology as an Enabler
Once your people are equipped and your processes are refined, then it’s time to choose the tools. Not the other way around.

We all know the Drucker quote: "Culture eats strategy for breakfast." But we rarely ask why.

But it’s because most companies actually have two cultures:

☝🏼 The Stated Culture: What we put on the website. "We value innovation!" 

✌🏼 The Underlying Assumptions: The unwritten rules of survival. "Do it cheap and fast."

Culture isn't what you write down. Culture is what you tolerate and what you reward. But, more often than not, strategy is designed for the stated culture, not the underlying assumptions. 

And this gap is what destroys execution. 

Your strategy is only as strong as the assumptions beneath it. If you want resilience, you have to dive below the surface. Stop polishing the stated values and start fixing the underlying behaviors.

Apple 🤝 Google 
... and the context of build vs buy playing out at a massive scale. 

After long speculation, Apple and Google announced a partnership to revamp Siri (so maybe she can actually answer a question or two correctly now) with Gemini as the engine behind it. 

Some see this as Apple admitting defeat, but I think it brings forward an interesting discussion that I am seeing pop up A LOT more often now in the world of AI. When do I build? When do I buy?

In this week's Leading Change, I am diving into what I think this decision means for Apple (HINT: it is a strategic decision to focus on what they do best) and the interesting "come back" story we are seeing play out with Google and their ranking in the world of AI.
