Wearing the hat of a Product Owner within a telco's Scrum team, I get to chart the incremental delivery of value via our flagship CSR digital product. Working closely with both Biz and Dev teammates, I scope out EdTech product features that must bring value to Malaysian students, teachers, and the org. Nothing beats knowing that our efforts have paid off, be it from meaningful success metrics or even product 'fan mail' from delighted users. Indeed, my previous experience of operating at an EdTech startup have helped me build a strong customer-centric outlook and good prioritisation skills. On the other hand, my past work at an elite private school and different government offices have equipped me with a good sense of what it takes to adapt to and navigate a diverse range of spaces. Having completed a pure science degree on a full-ride scholarship and then an advanced social science degree while in full-time employment, I have honed the fundamental skills and mindsets to derive insights from both quantitative and qualitative data. I have also come to view frameworks as abstractions - to be applied with contextual sensitivity; to be rebuilt from first principles where necessary; and to be secondary to the overall objective we are trying to achieve. At the end of the day, I value being in spaces and teams that allow me to grow both as a professional and a person, and to also grow others alongside.
