The medical sales job search can be an emotional rollercoaster. 🎢

I’ve been there. And I’ve seen a ton of people go through it too.

So, how can you stay motivated during your job search? 🤔

1. Celebrate the small wins. ⭐️ 

This is a game changer. Take every interaction, every new LinkedIn add, every interview, as a win. Even if it feels like something small, just remember that it’s moving you closer and closer to your ultimate goal. You could be just ONE connection away from building a meaningful relationship, just ONE application away to landing an interview, just ONE interview away from landing your dream job. 

2. Set ACTION-BASED goals, not outcome based goals. ✅ 

These will keep you motivated, because they’re in YOUR control. You CAN decide to add a certain amount of people on LinkedIn a day, but you CAN’T predict how many people will add you back. I used to use this method in my recruiting job when I was making hundreds of cold calls a day- I set goals that I knew I could cross off the list, which would then lead to the outcome that I was hoping for. I would make it a goal to make 150 cold calls a day, not make a goal to talk to x amount of people (that might leave you disappointed, lose momentum, and potentially feel stuck). Set controllable goals! 

3. Change your perspective. 👀 

Everything is perception. You GET to explore this incredibly rewarding career path. You GET to build resilience when you’re redirected away from an opportunity that isn’t a fit for you. You GET to meet incredible people that have the potential to become lifelong mentors and friends (seriously- I’ve met some really incredible people on LinkedIn that I consider friends). It’s okay to feel down from time to time. But I encourage you to change your perspective to think of the job search as an empowering experience. 


‼️This is just the beginning, and your hard work WILL pay off. You’ll find in your conversations with people in this industry that it wasn’t easy to get here, but they’re EXACTLY where they’re meant to be, despite the challenges they experienced along the way. That’s coming for you too 👏🏼👏🏼

I quickly learned that in this competitive industry of breaking into medical sales, you need to stand out. 

And… what makes you stand out? 

Your story. Your personal story. 

Your story is what makes you unique. Not only is it your driving force for breaking into the industry, but it’s what’s going to make you memorable to a hiring manager. 

It makes them see you for who you are and what you bring to the table. 

It helps you stay motivated throughout the duration of your career. It’s your “North Star”. 

This part of the medical sales job search can be easily and frequently overlooked by candidates. 

And it’s one of the biggest reasons I see people get stuck interviewing with so many companies and not having the chance to move forward. 

One of the craziest things I’ve learned in this journey, is that it doesn’t take much to help someone get to the core of their why. I typically ask them a few probing questions and have a candid conversation. Then all of a sudden… I’ll notice their face lighting up when it all clicks. 

And this completely changes the trajectory of their job search and sense of purpose in medical sales. 

Dig deep. Figure out what your driving force is. Let that keep you motivated and passionate to break into medical sales. Because YOU bring something unique. 👏🏼

I am asked by multiple people a day on how to break into medical sales. 

And the truth is… the answer is complicated. 🤔

There’s so many things you need to do to break in. 

But the first one, is be curious. 💭

Ask questions. Do research. Find what gets you excited. 

That curiosity is going to fuel you throughout the entire interview process, and your whole medical sales career. 🩺

✔️If you’re rejected after an interview, be curious and ask for feedback. 

✔️If you’re interested in a company, be curious and ask reps what they like about the company. 

✔️And when you start working in the field, let your curiosity drive you every day to ask questions and always be open to learning. 

Let your curiosity keep you motivated, interested, and excited. 

And that’s just the beginning. 👏🏼
