I am an experienced employment solicitor who has spent 18 years in private practice and been Times Lawyer of the Week for one of the first reported cases involving detriment because an employee wished to take adoption leave. My clients range from owner-managed businesses to blue chip companies, both regionally and nationally. I regularly advise on restructures, redundancies, TUPE, outsourcing, disciplinaries, grievances, long-term sickness/absence, holiday pay issues and capability management/exit and complex executive terminations. I have a particular interest in discrimination law, having defended complex Tribunal claims and some where £0.5 million of compensation could have been at stake. More recently I have:- • successfully defended a large employer in a social media case where the employee made a number of malicious comments aimed at the employer; • successfully defended multiple Tribunal claims involving whistleblowing, race/sex/disability discrimination and unfair dismissal for an international health retailer; • successfully defended a ‘class action’ type claim by a number of Claimants against a public sector employer in an insolvency situation; • assisted in a complex reorganisation for a regional heavyweight in the manufacturing industry; • gave advice and support in relation to a collective consultation to change shift working patterns for a large employer in the North of England; and • dealt with the TUPE aspects of a business purchase in the UK for a well-known utility company including the exit of senior individuals.
