In 2015, I was hired as the General Manager for Reserve Chicago (backed by the Co-Founder of Uber, FourSquare, First Round Capital, Diageo, etc.) to launch the brand new restaurant technology platform in one of the largest cities in the United States. I oversaw both sides of the marketplace, establishing relationships on the restaurant and the diner side, and lead a team responsible for making sure Reserve delivered on all we set out to do in Chicago. My role consisted of cultivating positive restaurant relationships, growing our diner base, growing our restaurant partnerships and overseeing day-to-day operations. I worked closely with my team to develop strategic partnerships and identify marketing opportunities that would help bring Reserve to more restaurants and more diners across Chicago.

CheekyChicago.com was the premiere online magazine for the women of Chicago, producing 35+ articles a week, monthly events and a state-of-the-art membership program.

As CEO, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, I launched and ran CheekyChicago.com for 7 years. During that time, Cheeky grew from an unknown brand to the most popular online magazine for women aged 24-40 in the city of Chicago, having penetrated 34% of the target audience. In addition to publishing 35 articles a week & 3 newsletters, Cheeky produced some of Chicago's most popular events on a monthly basis (clients/venues include Bloomingdale's, Saks, Equinox, the Four Seasons, the city of Chicago's Lincoln Park and Nordstrom). A sampling of Cheeky's clients include Nike, BCBG, Victoria's Secret, MillerCoors, SkinnyGirl, David Barton Gym, Lululemon, Red Bull, Coca-Cola, Top Shop and Heineken. The company also boasted a state of the art loyalty program called The Cheeky Card.

A business leader, Erica broke all records as Director of Global Sales for Coyle Hospitality, guiding hospitality industry titans in customer experience. She was one of the first employees - hired to launch and run the Chicago market - for venture-backed Reserve, which sold to Resy in 2018. Erica was selected as one of the very first female founders at 1871, Chicago's largest tech hub and incubator, where she launched CheekyChicago. In a few short years, Erica grew the multi-media platform into the city’s number one online resource for women. 
 
Erica currently serves on the Executive Board of Northwestern University's Council of 100, an invitation-only cohort of top-tier graduates selected to mentor female students and alumnae, is a Techstars powered by JP Morgan graduate and the winner of 2023's Naturally Chicago pitch slam.

Representation matters. At Globowl, we try our darnedest to do this through food and cultural education. While perusing online for some Chrismukkah crafts, I saw this. Representation in crayons. Which means more representation in schools. More children feeling seen. Major shoutout to Crayola!

As I embark on my second raise for Globowl, Troy Henikoff has forced me to re-think my "pitch" (for lack of better words). I will now be spending 60% of my conversations with investors discussing the low-risk path to a pot of gold. 🌈 And THIS is why we surround ourselves with people who make us think critically and expansively while making us better entrepreneurs and people. When I met Troy 18-ish years ago as an inexperienced entrepreneur, I was intimidated (to say the least). Now he's a huge part of my thinking on a daily basis, a trusted advisor, and a friend. Go Troy!

Yesterday I had one of those full-circle moments you don’t see coming.

I was invited to speak at my high school alma mater for #GlobalEntrepreneurshipWeek (so freaking weird). This is the same place where I performed in plays, crushed debate tournaments (I sometimes question why I didn't become a lawyer or a politician, but hey, there's always another chapter to write!), and unknowingly set myself on the path toward Northwestern University, Chicago, my career, my husband, my babies, and ultimately this wonderfully chaotic founder life.

The students were incredible. I barely made it through my deck because there were so many questions: the curious, hungry, thoughtful kind like "how do you get it all done?" Or "how do you know what the consumer wants?" Or "how do you market the business?" (TALK TO YOUR CONSUMER....relentlessly.)

Yesterday reminded me that any child, any girl, any dreamer, can be anything. We can return to the places that built us and pour right back into the next generation. We can stand on stages in lecture halls where we once sat in the audience, and inspire students to take a swing at their dreams, their goals, their highest hopes.

It was humbling, energizing, and honestly just so much fun. Although everyone asked inspired questions and were generally interested in the path to entrepreneurship, it was the line of girls at the end (yes, girls, because 14-17-year-olds are still GIRLS) waiting to thank me, shake my hand, ask a follow-up, or take a pic.

Entrepreneurship is wild, but moments like this make it feel beautifully worth it.

When I talk to investors, advisors, mentors, and fellow founders, there’s a sobering truth we all acknowledge: fundraising as a woman - especially in the consumer CPG world - is harder than it should be. We’re part of an ecosystem that is anything but an equal-system (puns are exclusively my own, and I can’t even blame ChatGPT for them). As I kick-off Globowl's new raise, I have a lot of thoughts on this (shared below in my latest Substack). Do you?
