Joining Turing as the first member of the Human Resources team means that I have worn mean many hats...and I wouldn't have it any other way! When I first joined, my biggest focus was onboarding our international workforce and setting them up for success early. Turing had been experiencing a period of very fast growth, so there were many new hires each week to welcome to the team. Some of the first things I addressed were streamlining the onboarding process and automating as much as possible. One of my first projects was to begin searching for an HRIS that could handle our growing headcount and in August of 2022 we successfully implemented HiBob within 12 weeks.

Now that we have implemented systems like HiBob, Greenhouse, and ADP WorkforceNow, we are able to focus on automating as many processes as possible. Each quarter we focus on adding more automations while focusing on how to keep each process scalable as we grow. 

I also have the pleasure of working with different members from all over the organization in order to understand the needs my stakeholders have. I work closely with many of our teams such as payroll, finance, legal, leadership, and more.

Every day is a new challenge and as fast as the company is growing, and I am growing alongside of it!

My primary focus as the HR Associate, Employee Experience at Axis is to welcome and onboard all of our new hires. This includes working with managers during the pre-hire phase to help them to prepare for their new hire; coordinating the first few weeks of a new hire's time with us, and working with the HR Operations team and IT to ensure a smooth start. Every other month I host a 4-day long Onboarding session where the new hires get a chance to meet with Senior Staff as well as with heads from every team from our regional headquarters. Within my first 6 months, I started the Community Service Committee at Axis which is now in its fifth year of helping employees find ways to give back to the local community.

Another large part of my responsibilities focuses around our HRIS and payroll systems (Workday and ADP). I process all changes for employees in our systems and communicate these changes to payroll, finance, and the rest of the HR team. Sometimes it feels like conducting an orchestra making sure that all of the pieces come together seamlessly. 

I am also passionate about gender diversity and led the team that organized the first annual Women in Security Summit at Axis in 2018. This company-wide event was attended by almost 100 employees and furthered the conversation of more gender diversity within the security industry. Looking forward, I will also be planning the 2020 Women in Security Summit with a team of dedicated gender diversity champions from Axis.

In the summer of 2019, I spent 7 weeks in our office in Paris as part of an international assignment. I performed a culture audit for our team in Southern Europe which included creating an analyzing a survey; one-on-one interviews with existing employees; and identifying trends with the data. In addition to the analysis, I also suggested different programs that could address some of the trends in order to improve the culture even more.

Because of the size of the company, I had the wonderful opportunity to gradually take on more responsibilities within Human Resources while I was at AS&E. When I first started as an HR Assistant/Receptionist, my primary focuses involved maintaining and adhering to the strict visitor badging policy and ensuring visitors and employees complied. I then started administering the benefit and retirement plans, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and more. I also took on a large role within the staffing and onboarding process. I was responsible for coordinating interviews, tracking applicants, orientation, and hiring them into our HRIS. In addition to these two components, I also spearheaded the Wellness Program. Acting as a champion and ambassador to the program, I spread the values throughout the company, encouraging our employees to be the healthiest versions of themselves. During my time with the Wellness Program, we had 3 successful step challenges throughout the company.

I also took on leadership positions within the Community Service Committee and the Employee Activities Committee. It is important to me that there is a time and place to encourage employees to enrich themselves and grow their relationships with each other outside of the professional setting. In addition to these two committees, I also oversaw two annual events: The Health Fair and the Benefits Fair.

While my title was a receptionist, I had many more responsibilities than sitting at the front desk and answering phone calls. I reported to the manager of Human Resources and aided with the creation of personnel files, the updating of HR files, and also processed I-9 verification paperwork. In addition to my HR responsibilities, I helped manage the Environmental Health & Safety information for the building. I also re-launched the Wellness Committee of 10 people that planned monthly events for the building.

Part of me doesn't like to refer to my position as a Resident Assistant as a "job". While it came with a lengthy job description and I logged countless hours, the position itself was so much more rewarding. For three years, I was a Resident Assistant to a new hall of freshmen. My first two years, I worked with the Wellness Community, a Living Learning Community that was catered to a substance-free and healthy lifestyle. For both this community and my non LLC community, I crafted 10 programs a year to meet their needs. Because I worked with different students each year, there was always a new issue to address or a different way to teach.

A big part of my position as a Resident Assistant involved various crisis management situations. When on duty at night, we had to address any and all situations that could happen. However, responding to different crises didn't end when we were done for the night. If an issue arose in the middle of the day, it was expected that we handled it appropriately. I learned to expect the unexpected and while there wasn't always a clear answer to a given problem, I gained the skills to figure out the best solution.

I collaborated with the Opinion editor of my university's newspaper, The Chronicle, along with the other writers for the Opinion section. I wrote opinionated pieces that also educated the readers about each topic I researched.

My time as a technician at my university's Technology Center taught me how to solve problems. While we were trained with the typical solutions to the most popular issues with computers, it was more important to know how to try to solve a problem you had never seen before. As a Technician, I made the customer's experience positive regardless of the outcome of their issue. I was also able to connect with my community further by interacting with students, professors, and faculty each day.

At the beginning of this summer internship, I began to research the social media trends of similar organizations such as St. Martin de Porres Academy. Working in their Development Department, I put together a social media strategy that would launch in the last few weeks of my internship. In addition to the plan I set forth online, I also helped create newsletters and appeal letters to be sent to their donor base comprised of 1,500+ people.

As a Summer Resident Assistant, I helped the professional staff of the Residential Life department prepare for the incoming undergraduate students. I answered incoming phone calls, welcomed visitors to the office, and provided various assistance to the professional staff, including the Associate Dean of Student Affairs & Director of Residential Life. I also had the opportunity to present to large groups of freshmen during orientation about their experience of living on campus.

I proudly worked as a cashier and server for a locally owned pizza shop. I was the first person who greeted a customer when they came in, and was the last one to say goodbye, ensuring their experience was the best I could provide.
