Hi, my name is Eric, and I was born (on December 3, 1981) and raised in the Dominican Republic (where my interest in birds and natural history began) and have been living in Spain since 2012 (I hold dual citizenship). I am the second of four children (three sons and one daughter). My mother is a homemaker, and my father has worked extensively in the agricultural sector, from high-value crops (cocoa and passion fruit) to broilers and honeybees. The surname Carrasco refers to a kermes oak (Quercus coccifera). I earned a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in 2005 and an MSc in Ecology from the Complutense and Autonomous Universities of Madrid in 2014. As Albert Einstein once said „I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious“. My fields of interest are animal and veterinary sciences, zoonotic diseases, invasive species, biological pest control, nature-based solutions, climate action, sustainability, conservation, biodiversity, ecology, parasitology, zoology, bats, and other wildlife species, mainly birds and their habitats. In addition to exploring the bird life wherever I go, I enjoy an eclectic assortment of other hobbies including housework, hiking, eating out, listening to music, and watching TV shows –some of my favorites have been Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Fringe, Breaking Bad, and recently Sex Education. I am also an avid reader and enjoy speculative fiction and nature books. As Arthur C. Clarke once said „I don’t believe in astrology; I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical“. And, well, I don't have a driving license because... I don't know how to drive. I've never needed to.
