My name is Erin Parrish-Harlow, and I am physically disabled. Throughout my life, my disability has been used against me to ostracize me from my classmates. I want to use my experiences with getting accommodations in school (and overcoming bullying) to help people with disabilities. No matter physical or intellectual abilities, every person should be able to access education, employment, housing — every thing that someone who does not have either an intellectual disability or a physical disability can access with ease. Ableism happens in every part of society: Education, employment, healthcare, and housing, to name a few. I want to help people with disabilities overcome every obstacle that they encounter. It would bring me great joy to work in the social services field helping disabled individuals overcome obstacles to gainful employment.
