Senior Associate

My role within the financial services assurance division at PwC enables me to gain valuable exposure and insight into various sub-sectors of the broader financial services sector including stock broking, stock exchanges, asset management, private wealth, payment gateway providers, debt collection and pension funds. My client portfolio also provides me with exposure to the legal sector and various IT companies. 

Through this role I have been able to develop not only my auditing skills, but also broaden my industry knowledge and gain an in depth understanding of corporate management.

Associate

Multiplex Partners Ltd

Multiplex is an organisational development/executive consulting firm with operations in South Africa and Malta, and clients worldwide. 

As the Head of Finance, I initially established an effective accounting system and have since consistently maintained the financial statements, with a primary focus on the Income Statement.

My other roles and duties include the preparation of the VAT 201 forms, income tax calculations, invoicing and debtor management, client communication, foreign currency management and general investment advice and decision making. 

Additionally, I am responsible for various ongoing projects and the management thereof. One such example was creating a strategic business plan and pricing model for a team profiling product.

I have been able to gain tremendous insight into the effective management and operation of a business from both a financial and strategic perspective, and will use these skills throughout my career.

Head Of Finance

One of my main contributions to Multiplex in this role was that I helped to run an assessment centre. This is a day long program in which candidates are screened for a job. My role included assessing candidates and later, analysing the data as well as hosting candidates and supporting any who displayed doubt or concern. I also performed various administrative tasks in this role, such as collating and analysing data samples.

Other work performed over this period includes various data capturing and analytics performed for various assessments and job profiles.

Data Analyst

Investment Society (InvestSoc.) UCT

My role as the FinTech project manager enabled me to network and collaborate with multiple tech start-ups and individuals globally. It provided me with deep insight into this emerging sector.

Furthermore, I was able to develop my interpersonal and leadership skills by leading a small subcommittee who assisted in event preparation. This experience taught me the value of developing and ensuring synergy in a team as a leader, and bringing out the best in those that you work with.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was also able to greatly improve my flexibility and adaptability, taking my portfolio entirely online and ensuring a successful year despite the circumstances.

As a business intern at Edcon, I was able to gain valuable insight into both the financial and operational functions of the business. I gained tremendous exposure and insight into the audit process, and was able to hone my accounting skills through the opportunity to work on a specific account.

Alex Venter Taxation Services

I formed part of a small team that was responsible for processing and reconciling bank statements and various other documents, including VAT, tax and salaries, as well as compiling management accounts (trade results). I also performed various administrative tasks, including contacting clients and collating information. I worked with Excel, Lotus and Turbocash and am proficiently skilled at this. During the 2018 end of year university holidays I worked full time, and during the first few months of 2019 I worked on an occasional part time basis.

I am a senior audit associate at PwC in the financial services division, currently working towards qualifying as a CA(SA).

I have a keen passion for the finance industry, which is demonstrated through my participation in the CFA program (level 1 exam passed in February 2021) as well as my previous and current job exposures. I aim to qualify as a CFA Charterholder in the coming years. 

I’m motivated to make an impact and be a catalyst for change throughout my career. I enjoy critical thinking and innovative solutions, and I’m always up for a challenge.
