Doctors never get an invoice from me for reading emails or sending texts. That's not what we do. What we do is much more like a talent agent for actors or professional athletes. Your favorite actor, football player, movie star, all those people have agents whose job it is to find them the best opportunities for the most money.

We do the exact same thing for doctors. 

A question that frequently comes up is – “You don't work for free, so how do you get paid?”Our fee structure is what sets us apart from anyone else out there.

Here's an actual example from our clients.

We renegotiated employment contracts for a group of 6 women doctors. We negotiated an average salary raise of $180,000, per year, for each of the doctors in the group. The doctors are stayed with their current employer.

Let’s go back to comparison to professional athletes, actors and movie stars. Our fee is a percentage of the doctor’s salary. And, we negotiate our fee into the doctor's contract so that it’s covered by the employer.

For those doctors who made $180K more each year, our fee was less than $20K for each doctor.

“But, where does this money come from to pay RMPA?” 

We negotiated a retention bonus of $40,000 paid to each doctor by the employer. This bonus is paid immediately when the doctors signed their contracts. Less than half of the bonus went to paying RMPA’s fee.

Do your homework
Before entering into any negotiation, it's important to do your research. This means researching the industry standard for salaries and benefits in your field, as well as researching the specific employer you're considering. Look at their reputation, financial stability, and any recent news or changes that might affect your employment.

Be clear about your goals
Make a list of the things that are most important to you in your employment contract. This might include salary, benefits, work-life balance, location, or opportunities for advancement. Prioritize your list to help you focus on what matters most.

Negotiation is a conversation
When negotiating, it's important to start with a strong position. This means asking for more than you expect to receive, so that you have room to negotiate down if necessary. Ask for a salary and benefits package that reflects your research and your priorities.

Compromise is the name of the game

When it comes to the without cause termination in a doctor’s contract, I usually aim for a timeframe of 90 to 120 days. 

That timeline represents a doctor’s runway to replace their income.

The tricky part for doctors is when the employer says, 'Hey Dr. Smith, we don't need you anymore.' Then what? In the best situations, hospitals or employers will give you 90 to 120 days' notice, but they might also let you go right away.

How do you make money while searching for a new job?
