We were acquired in Aug 2015 by SurveyMonkey.

In addition, I managed a team of alliance managers responsible for building our ecosystem of co-selling partners (PR agencies and marketing consultancies), as well as cultivating and managing alliances with strategic technology platform partners like Oracle, Jive, Marketo, and Salesforce.com.

SRECTrade is a start-up providing a web-based auction for Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs).  SRECs are an incentive mechanism to promote the adoption of solar energy.

As an intern, SRECTrade provided an optimal immersion into the exciting and expanding solar industry.  The array of interesting projects I spearheaded helped me to develop a wide range of skills--from sales to policy research to financing to business development.

Had a great time with our partners at G2 at Dreamforce. One big trend is clear - with LLM-led vendor discovery/search and evaluation - you need to have a LOT of specific, 3rd-party verified proof and reviews to show up well in searches in ChatGPT, Claude, etc.

Unlike the generic google search of old, "what's the best tool for X?" - LLM "searches" are loaded up with a ton of contextual information on who you are that really transforms that search to "what's the best tool for X, for me, given all you know about me?"

LLMs crave specificity, and they need to cite credible sources when they give answers back.

Here are some takeaways to improve your odds of showing up in LLM search:

- Review sites like G2 are frequently cited by LLMs. Make sure you're investing in a solid presence, and getting a diverse range of customers to share their perspectives. High scores are great but more important now is depth/breadth/diversity and currency of reviews.

- Create more specific pages on your website to organize customer proof. EG if a prospect has spent the last 3 months telling ChatGPT about how they are building a PLG/self-serve GTM model - having a page on your site that is titled "How we help PLG companies" with a bunch of proof/reviews might have a good shot of showing up in LLM search. So have many permutations of pages by industry, persona, competitor, use-case, etc

The G2 - UserEvidence integration is a great way to accelerate both review sourcing to G2, and also packaging of review content into microsites and collections in UserEvidence to distribute that content widely and increase your LLM search surface area.

Great to hang Godard Abel, Eric Gilpin, Sydney Sloan, Christine Li, Courtney Raver, and Lauren McGrath! Glad the rain cleared for the rooftop party!

The Jackson Hole News and Guide recently published an article on the best breakfast burritos in Jackson, WY. The 10 editors evaluated 8 different burrito spots (or more accurately 2 burrito spots and 6 restaurants/markets that happen to make burritos).

Here’s what it taught me about customer evidence (yea I’m doing it - it’s a slow social day and I haven’t had breakfast yet so give me a break)

First - there’s an objective winner here, and it’s criminal that D.O.G. was rated 3rd when they have by far the best burrito - stretchy, translucent, high-fat content flour tortilla, ingredients grilled and chopped up on the flat top grill - it’s no contest.

I’m pretty sure the editors are close friends with the first two spots on the list, and/or their taste is just collectively off.

But it does illustrate a couple of important points about reviews and analyst reports (these editors got to play the role of industry analysts in this example):

- There might not actually be an objectively-defined “best burrito.” In complex B2B purchases, this is especially the case - it is much more about what is the best solution for you (in your specific environment, use-case, company size, industry, tech-stack, etc).  So even if you’re in the upper right quadrant of the magic quadrant/grid/wave/tetrahedron - don’t assume you’re waltzing to a signed contract - you’re going to need a lot more specific, relevant, customer proof to convince prospects in this hyper-noisy market.

- Not everyone is going to have relevant advice/opinions/reviews for you. Some people know what they are talking about (again esp relevant to your size/scenario) - some reviews are just fluff. Analyst opinions, while often very-well informed, are still opinions. Specificity and detail and relevance are going to be key to the persuasiveness of your customer proof. 

With prospects that are inevitably going to have varying tastes, preferences, environments, scenarios, etc - if you do or don’t get the analyst stamp of approval - the deal isn’t done yet. Make sure you have a strong presence on review sites like G2, TrustRadius, Capterra, etc - and perhaps more importantly - make sure you have a strong proactive/intentional effort to go capture customer proof evidence directly from customers.

The fake DocuSign contract signing emails as Phishing attempts are particularly effective at the end of the quarter I will say.

One of my favorite use-cases for AI over the last few months has been berry identification. Previously a very difficult thing to do (you need context on the region, the time of year, the aspect, elevation, the photo analyzing tech has to be really good) with traditional Google search and books. But AI is excellent in this scenario.

Thanks to ChatGPT5, my kids and I harvested some Serviceberries and Oregon Grapes (pictured - neither of which I had heard of a year ago) around Jackson Hole this fall and they were delicious!

AI has a very similar opportunity in #CustomerMarketing and #CustomerAdvocacy - here’s one example use-case I’m seeing within UserEvidence right now that’s pretty exciting:

AI matching references with both structured and unstructured data that creates a more complete/colorful profile of the advocate. 

E.g. Let's say you need a reference that has experience with a particular feature or use-case of your product. That might not be something you’ve tagged/labeled in Salesforce, but it’s an important element to choosing a reference that performs well on the call. 

These breadcrumb data/context about their product usage could live in an analytics tool like Pendo or Amplitude, or it could be in a Gong recording where they are talking to their CSM about how they’ve had success with that feature, or could be in a testimonial from a G2 Review or UserEvidence survey.

AI (or at least AI that’s trained at this specific job) is very adept at shuffling through a heterogeneous data set to divine these key/salient clues and context to factor/weight in those relevant clues to the reference matching algorithm.

V1 of reference matching was very structured/rigid - same industry, same company size, etc. But while those could be important factors for relevance/strength of the reference, often there’s more important and interesting factors for matching that are more nuanced - use-case, problem-solved, internal hurdle they are facing, competitor they are moving off of, etc.

Modern advocacy teams will build+buy systems that natively leverage AI to solve messy big data problems like these to get the most relevant and persuasive references on the phone w/their prospects.

Big shoutout to Brandon Jakobson, Sam Farber, and Srikar Chava for leading the charge on that particular use-case within UE Advocacy/References.
