Getting an app on the App Store is not as simple as I thought 🥲

So I want to get an app on both app stores

I need to integrate subscriptions, but I need a developer account on both before I can actually setup my subscriptions and get the logic going

Turns out, if I sign up on play store as an individual, my name would be on the app etc and it’s not what I wanted

“So register a business” said Faheem

I fought with CIPC for a few hours and eventually I was done

When I went to sign up with my new business name etc

I got asked for a duns number

“Wtf is that” Faheem thought to himself

Turns out, it’s a unique business Id that comes a company in the us (or something like that - not sure I completely understand)

So I went to ChatGPT

It took me to apples support for getting this number or id

I sent my application

I got a response stating I didn’t submit the documents

“When did they ask me for documents” Faheem thought to himself

Anyways, long story short

I sent a support request to Apple asking where can I upload this number

And to summarise, if you trying to get your app on the app stores, maybe start this process first so that when you get to subscriptions etc - you’ll be ready

Which is what I should have done🥲

Here’s hoping it doesn’t take much longer🤞

Controversial take:
Junior software engineers should use ai tools

Before some of you take my head off, let me explain

In general a junior should attempt to solve a problem and then reach out for assistance from a team member

Now they should not struggle for a day or two, in order to be efficient - if a junior is stuck on a problem for let’s say 30min - an hour

That’s when they should reach out for assistance

This is so that they can be enabled/guided to move forward

So at this point, I think they can use ai tools to move forward

Maybe not getting the entire answer immediately

But looking for guidance

If the ai tool doesn’t assist well enough, then reach out for help from peers

But the ai tool could probably be used as a rubber duck and help them move forward

It can also give context and understanding to the engineer

So if it’s used to learn instead of using it as the solution, I do believe it can be quite beneficial

Kinda like using stackoverflow

Why am I building my app???

Yesterday, I watched the diary of a ceo episode with Mohnish Pabrai 

It was an interesting conversation overall but what I loved??

Mohnish mentioned entrepeurship is not about money etc

It’s about putting a little bit of your music out into the world (he said it better)

I loved that

I’ve been thinking about it non stop since

And that’s why I’ve always wanted to make something

Ngl, for the longest time I thought it was for money

And every time I did it with that reason in mind

I didn’t go far

Normally switching between projects 

This app tho

I made it for my kid

It just so happened that it might be useful to other kids

So I decided to go down this journey

But most importantly, I never got tired or bored doing it

It was my little piece of music in my corner of the world

It’s still far from actually getting published (I hope not too far)

But it’s been fun thus far

And I can’t wait until I actually can share it with others

Even if it’s just useful to a few people

I hope I can tell myself one day soon that

I made that

Don’t be afraid, just ask…

As a junior, a student, a human being - we sometimes get so lost in our heads constantly thinking “what if”

What if it’s a stupid question 

What if they say no

What if I’m imposing

But what if the person does not mind and they aren’t busy and at some point they wanted to ask the exact same question 

Don’t get too lost in the anxiety that surrounds the situation 

Just go for it

Seniors love to help (most do)

People love to mentor

Presenters love to answer questions 

But you’ll only find that out when you take a deep breath and just go for it

So do that

Go for it

Im sure you won’t be disappointed 😁

Steve Jobs said “focus is about saying no”

Yesterday I mentioned signal vs noise, where signal are the things that drive value - for software engineers that looks like writing clean code, creating features and clear communication.
Noise would be everything that distracts - endless meetings, unnecessary communication and over communication.

So what can you do?

Here’s a short list for engineers to focus on signal

✅ How to Cut the Noise

1.	Set 1 Priority per Day → Apply the 80/20 rule. Work on what drives the most value.

2.	Block Deep Work Time → Use Pomodoro (25/5 -  my fav) or block 2 hours of focus daily.

3.	Turn Off Distractions → Mute Slack, email, socials during deep work.

4.	Use YAGNI & KISS → Build only what’s needed. Simpler code = fewer bugs.

Try it out and let me know, I’m going to be trying this going forward too

Tomorrow I’ll post on how teams can focus on signal and what standards they can create

For the last 3 weeks I’ve been purposefully working on my side project and it’s been great

I’m not doing anything special like cutting sleep or anything

I put my kid to sleep

Then I just spend time working on it consistently

And the consistency is paying off

Most of my functionality is done 

And I have my mvp features ready

And it’s all through consistency

1 hour a day is better that 5 random hours in the month

Rubber ducking is underrated

Yesterday, my team and I jumped onto a call

During the call, one team member said “I love this, so many different perspectives”

And that’s the brilliant part of rubber ducking

Sometimes, you just need to work through your solution in your brain

Sometimes you’ve already implemented something but you’re not sure

By rubber ducking with someone, you can better understand your own thought process

You can come up with a viable solution

But you can also see how someone else would solve your problem

Sometimes we get stuck on a solution, which is normal

But it might not be the best way to solve a problem

And having someone else’s perspective allows you to rethink what you’re doing

And come up with a really valuable solution

Now I’m not saying don’t trust yourself

But sometimes it’s just good to get someone else’s perspective on things that are edge cases

So try it out

And create an environment within your team that promotes perspectives and collaboration

P.S. this meme is not reflecting the same thing as what I’m saying🤣

It’s Sunday and before the week starts I want to remind you…

As Einstein says “imagination is everything”

As software engineers I’d like to think that code attracted us because we knew it was limitless

I for one, believed that I could create anything with code

And I hope this year to create something from that imagination

So go out, let your imagination run wild and create something you believe in!

I am a big advocate for using ai tools as a software engineer

But sometimes the best thing to do is take matters into your own hands😅

Although depending on the scope of the issue, the below examples do work

However, in the more complex scenarios, it’s best to do it yourself or make it so simple to fix that even ai can step in

Let’s look at ways to tackle signal and noise in teams

Yesterday we looked an individual level of addressing signal and noise

Today, I have used ChatGPT to do some research and I have some thoughts on reducing noise for teams

Let’s look at some team standards to introduce to reduce noise:

1.	Introduce No-Meeting Days → E.g. “No-Meeting Wednesdays” to protect focus.

2.	Make Updates Asynchronous → Replace standups with short async check-ins - depending on how long your standups take
	
3.	Limit WIP & Multitasking → Use Kanban with Work-In-Progress limits.
	
4.	Automate the Boring Stuff → CI/CD, tests, formatting = less manual noise.
	
5.	Write Less, Clearer Docs → 1-pager over 50-page spec. Less clutter = better clarity.

🌟 Benefits
•	🚀 Faster delivery (less context-switching)
•	✅ Fewer bugs (focus on simplicity and clarity)
•	🤝 Better collaboration (clearer communication)
•	😊 Happier engineers (less burnout, more flow)

⚠️ Potential Cons
•	⚖️ Risk of under-communication if async isn’t managed well
•	🔁 Culture shift needed – especially in meeting-heavy or legacy teams

So that’s just some of the way you could reduce noise for team

I did use ChatGPT to do some research and come up with a summarised simple strategy to follow

The next ai tool I’m playing with is Claude

Today, I read a post on subagents in Claude

Essentially you can create subagents for different purposes

These subagents can be run at certain predefined points or they can be invoked manually

I find it so interesting that you could essentially create a FE agent, BE agent, pr reviewer agent etc

I’ll have an agent for every different team member

And I can iterate on them to improve them

This is so interesting and I can’t wait to try it out

What do you do if you need a duns number but you can’t get a duns number because you can’t submit a case to duns because it can’t find your company name in your country🙃

And that’s how you confuse yourself on a Monday
