“Can you finish this job by midday tomorrow?” I can finish it by 11am today - I said They were laughing. Seriously, midday tomorrow? No, I said this will be done by 11am, today. And it surely got done by 11am. I will never forget: it was the driver-side door of a damaged Volvo truck, that had to be painted. They brought it to the paint shop at 7am, and it got out of the workshop that same afternoon, all brand new and painted. Like never before, at that company. Who is this guy? They asked. Anywhere I went, I created chaos at my workplace. Some colleagues hated me. Most respected me and got inspired. When I stepped into a team, it was game over for average. It was game over for complacency. I immediately revamped processes, built tools, and brought about many changes that positively impacted the productivity and output. The companies, swimming in the sea of complacency for years, were having a renaissance, and a fast paced startup moment. Managers were having a sense of a golden age. Complacent and lazy colleagues had no choice but to level up to the new standards. There was no place for slow pace anymore. I was sorry, but not sorry. If you are an employee, I want you to realise: you are way more than “just an employee”. You can be the change. You can be the spark of hope, the messenger of good things to come. You can be the fire the company so desperately needs. I’ve been there, for over two decades. It works. And I wasn’t doing it for the money. I was doing it for the thrill. For my mental health. For my pride. And you can be that team member too. You are way more than what you think you are, at your company. Once you realise that, happiness, pride, and a sense of security that you never thought you can have, will come. Oh, and of course, money beyond your imagination will be a pleasant side effect.
