Howard started out as a lawyer during the dot.com boom, sparking his passion for technology and data law and regulation. He advises established financial services providers from a defensive data compliance perspective, and most recently on many GDPR compliance programmes. He also advises new entrants to the financial sector on how to use data to their business advantage. Howard is also an experienced Tech transactions lawyer, most recently by assisting banks with their digital transformation projects and the entry of digital/crypto-asset businesses into the market. He provides holistic advice, anticipating future issues and considerations before they arise, particularly when it comes to outsourcing business processes and purchasing tech solutions. Howard is motivated by getting the deal done whilst ensuring his client’s interests are best represented. He takes a vested approach to his client relationships, involving both internal stakeholders and counterparties directly. Howard’s time working in-house at COLT Telecom and Standard Chartered Bank, where he was a global Head of Legal & Compliance for Commercial & Technology work, has given him a unique understanding of his clients’ business and sector. Howard spent five years working in Hong Kong, and has an extensive network throughout Asia.
