Want to be liked?
Don't lead. 

Nobody likes to be disliked.
But in leadership? It’s inevitable.

If you’re doing your job right, you will upset someone.
→ The colleague who wanted you to approve a half-baked idea.
→ The team member who preferred silence over uncomfortable truth.
→ The executive who wanted harmony more than progress.
→ The friend at work who expected loyalty over integrity.

Leadership isn’t a popularity contest.
It’s a responsibility.

John Lennon nailed it:
“Being honest might not get you a lot of friends, but it always gets you the right ones.”

Here’s the paradox:
The higher you rise, the more visible you become.

And the more visible you are, the more opinions people will project onto you.

Some will admire you.
Some will resent you.
Some will misunderstand you.

And if you try to please them all? 
You’ll end up exhausted and invisible.

So what do you do when the fear of being disliked creeps in?

1️⃣ Anchor in your values.
If you know what you stand for, criticism loses its sting. 
People may disagree, but they can’t accuse you of being fake.

2️⃣ Choose respect over likeability.
Being respected for your integrity beats being liked for your compliance. 
Every. Single. Time.

3️⃣ Normalise discomfort.
Leaders who sugarcoat or avoid tough conversations aren’t protecting people. They’re paralysing them.

4️⃣ Build the right inner circle.
Surround yourself with people who tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear. 
Those are the friends Lennon was talking about.

5️⃣ Reframe criticism.
Not all negative feedback is equal. 
Some of it reveals bias or resistance. 
Some of it reveals blind spots you can grow from. 
Learn to tell the difference.

The brutal but liberating truth:
If everyone likes you, you’re not leading, you’re performing.

The leaders I admire most aren’t the ones with universal approval.
They’re the ones who had the courage to stand in the storm: calm, clear, and committed.

Because leadership worth having will never please everyone.

And if your honesty costs you a few “friends”?
It’s almost always the wrong ones leaving.

By the end, the whole city was singing...

Passion is contagious.

Last week in Paris, a single song turned strangers into "us".

No invitations. No rehearsal.

Just a pianist, a few brave voices at the windows… 
And then *boom* an entire square singing “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Kids on scooters,
People on terraces, 
Tourists with gelato… 
All swept into the moment.

That’s the quiet superpower of relationships:
Not networking. Belonging.
Not influence. In-the-moment resonance.

When someone leads with real passion and clean intent, three things happen:

1️⃣ Hearts sync before calendars do.
You don’t need buy-in slides when people can feel why it matters.

2️⃣ Permission spreads faster than perfection.
One person dares → the second follower makes it safe → the crowd makes it normal.

3️⃣ Energy becomes movement.
Not because of volume, but because of connection - micro-smiles, eye contact, shared breath.

We all want this at work and in life, right?
Fewer “alignment meetings.” More aliveness.

How to spark your own mini-movement this week (no piano required):
✅ Start small, start seen. 
↳ Share the rough draft. Hit “record.” Send the voice note.

✅ Name the cue. 
↳ “When I post the prototype at 4pm, jump in with one improvement.” 

✅ Reward joining, not polish. 
↳ Celebrate the second follower loudly.

✅ Pass the mic. 
↳ Invite someone unexpected to lead the next verse.

✅ Close with gratitude. 
↳ End together so people want the encore.

Relationships aren’t built in meetings. They’re built in moments.
Create the moment and watch the room (and sometimes a whole square) choose to join.

A 20-minute walk can fix what 2 hours of scrolling never will.

We treat walking as “just transport” or “lite exercise”
But walking might be the single most underrated act of self-care.

➤ For your health:
Walking lowers blood pressure, slashes heart disease risk by up to 30%, and boosts your immune system.
That’s like erasing a decade of bad habits with your shoes.

Last week I solved a client brief halfway through a walk to the bakery. No laptop required.

So lace up. Today, go outside.

Don’t just walk for health. 
Walk with someone you love.
Walk when the news is too much.
Walk when the house feels too quiet.
Walk for heartbreak, for hope, for grieving, for gratitude.
Walk with with your worries until they get bored and leave you behind.

This isn’t just movement.
It’s medicine. Clarity. Self-compassion.

And remember:
A walk is not “time wasted.” → It’s time invested.
A walk is not “taking a break.” → It’s taking control.
A walk is not “doing nothing.” → It’s doing everything your body and brain are begging you to do. 

Next time you’re stuck, spiralling, or snapping at people you love… 
Don’t open another app.
Open the door.

Because sometimes the best gym, therapy, and strategy session… is the same walk.

Stop negotiating like you’re lucky to be here…
Start negotiating like a leader.

Most people walk into salary negotiations the wrong way:

They wait to be judged, hope for fairness, 
and accept whatever lands on the table.
That’s not negotiation.
That’s gambling.

Here’s how to flip the script and walk out with the offer you deserve:

Step 1️⃣ - Before You Even Say “Hello”
Negotiation starts before the interview, not after the offer.
Do your homework.

1) Know three numbers:
↳ Your ideal number
↳ Your realistic number
↳ Your walk-away point

2) Prepare 3-5 proof points showing the ROI you bring:
↳ “Last year, I led a project that saved €300K.”
↳“Closed €1.2M in new business.”
↳ Numbers talk.


Step 2️⃣ - In the Interview
When they ask, “What’s your salary expectation?”
Don’t play their game. 
Flip it:

“Before sharing a number, I’d love to understand the budgeted range for this role.”

You’ve just done two things:
1) Avoided anchoring yourself too low
2) Made them reveal their cards first

And when you do share your number, make it about value, not need:
“Based on my impact in similar roles, €95K feels aligned.”
No apologies. No justifications. Just facts.


Step 3️⃣ - When the Offer Lands
Here’s where most people cave. 
Don’t.

Pause.
Smile.
And say:

“I’m excited about this role. Based on my research and track record, I was expecting something closer to €X. Is there flexibility?”

Then shut up.
Let the silence do the work.

And if the salary is fixed?
Widen the playing field:
“Can we explore flexibility on bonuses, equity, or benefits?”


Step 4️⃣ - The Golden Rule
Negotiate like you already belong there.
Because you do.

The goal isn’t confrontation.
It’s alignment.

You’re not asking for a favour.
You’re demonstrating your value.

If you think business is about KPIs, funnels, and ROI... you’re already losing.
Because business isn’t metrics-first. It’s people-first.
