Rejection is protection. Rejection is redirection. These are nice things to focus on, and sometimes true statements that focus on gratitude and the future you want to see. 

But the current truth in my life, and many others on the hunt? Rejection is also lonely. Rejection is also the opposite of motivating. It's sometimes degrading and often exhausting. Its difficult to know you deserve more, that you have strong skills to offer, to know that you're ready to strategically join a team that is moving forward in a way that aligns with your vision, and you're waiting for that yes.

And then to hear a no before you've had the opportunity to sell yourself. With a cold email with no information in it that is helpful or useful. And no feedback to learn from.

The jobless numbers look good on paper, but I see so many posts of defeated, jobless folks on here each day, that have looked for months, with no success. They are talented, growth oriented and smart. 

The system is broken, and I want to help make it better. I don't have the answers (yet), but having the majority of your workforce feeling unmoored is not it. People are underemployed, unemployed, or worried about their jobs. This is a lose-lose situation for all- for the workers and the employers. It's a cycle of dysfunction. We've lost our humanity at work in this current market. Recently, I have had friends take 30% pay cuts to keep their roles. I have heard of people getting demoted on paper but in reality, they have more work for less pay. How is this ok? I worry for the future of our country (for many reasons) and wonder how we expect people to keep this pace, with limited support for our mental and physical health, which are the most important things.

I vow to be kinder (both to others and to myself), to support others looking for work anyway that I can, and to listen to those working who are dissatisfied. I will spend another day applying, following up and researching companies that are doing well and doing good. We all deserve safe workplaces that are strategic, forward-thinking and as clear about where they are going in a disjointed world.

As I ease into month four (not that I am counting!) of the job hunt, I try to lead with gratitude, and remember that nothing is about me, and the only thing I control is my attitude.

The world is upside down, and most of us are full of money worries, family responsibilities, and going through this thing called life. 

I must focus on what is important. I am healthy and so are my loved ones. I have a house over my head (that I own!), food in my belly and possibilities ahead. 

I strive to stay grounded, stay grateful and stay kind.

It's Friday. Take a breath. You have gotten this far. You can handle anything that comes your way, and you deserve good things.

In the land of layoffs, political unrest and economic uncertainty, we must all count our blessings (health, a roof over your head, food in your belly) and be kind to others.

Today, I am grateful for sun and tax returns. I am looking forward to time with my sister, longer days coming, networking opportunities next week, interviews on the schedule, and some applications that I am hoping to hear back on.
