After the acquisition of dotProjects/CrossCheck by AUSY Group in the fall of 2014, I managed the integration of the clients, processes and staff into the AUSY Group. I worked with the existing leadership team of AUSY Belgium in Leuven, to unify our processes and make sure staff felt comfortable moving from an SME-culture into a large corporate organisation.

In the fall of 2004 I founded “dotProjects” (in 2013 rebranded to “CrossCheck”) together with two partners and started working full time for it in the spring of 2005. We grew the company from just the three of us to a team of 25 web professionals over the next ten years. I started by taking care of business development, sales & marketing, and project management while my partners took technology, finance and HR as their areas of responsibility. I later moved into operational management and continued to do all the business development and sales work. Dotprojects became one of the major players in Belgium in the implementation of open source web content management solution based on Drupal. While we worked mainly as a subcontractor for other agencies the first years, we gradually started doing more and more work directly for the end-market as of 2011. Some of the companies we worked for include Infrabel, Danone, The City of Antwerp, Eandis, bpost, Telenet, Pioneer Europe, Mobistar, ITV and Médecines Sans Frontières.

Our last year as an independent company, we had a turnover of €2 million, a production office with 6 employees in Barcelona, and sales activities in both Belgium and The Netherlands. Our office in Ghent had three production teams with each a project manager which I coached. 

As an account manager I focussed on developing and deepening relations and service levels to existing clients, turning a lot of one-off projects into recurring business. For the acquisition of new business we developed special expertise in answering to government tenders. 

In the fall of 2014 we sold the company to AUSY Group, a French IT- and engineering-player listed on the Paris stock market, and one of our bigger clients. Our office became a branch of “ONE Agency" (AUSY Belgium's brand for web projects) while I continued my work as an account manager and interim operations director for the team in Ghent.

Telenet

To finance the startup of dotProjects, I assumed a role as interim project manager for Telenet, one of Belgiums largest telecom-providers. At that time the marketing department decided to establish an internal web team to manage its growing portfolio of digital projects outside of the fixed structured of the IT-department. When I joined Telenet as a consultant, this "e-services" department consisted of just three people. By the time I left two and a half years later, it had grown to +80 people and was responsible for all customer-facing digital channels for Telenet. 

As an interim project manager I was responsible for the implementation of several large projects including Zita.be - the Telenet B2C portal - and the rebranding of the games community 9lives. I also acted as an internal account manager for the Telenet B2B business unit, helping them define and launch online campaigns.

Working at Telenet allowed me to fine tune my "corporate politics" skills, which I would use a lot the following years while working as an account manager and supplier on web projects for other large multi-national organizations and government agencies.

Project Manager e-services

Syntra Antwerpen en Vlaams Brabant

While still in school I started teaching at Syntra, one of the biggest training institutions sponsored by the Flemish government. I gave courses in web design, HTML, CSS, Microsoft Frontpage, Adobe Dreamweaver and Paint Shop Pro - mostly in evening education tracks of 6 to 8 weeks. Later I also gave a year-long course for young webmasters, touching all relevant web-related topics such as HTML, CSS, web design, SEO, and e-marketing. The last two years at Syntra, then at the campus in Mechelen, I initiated the year-long course "e-commerce entrepreneur", created the curriculum and gave the course for two years before handing it over to other trainers. I also helped Syntra win the eBay Academy business and gave both beginner and advanced training for groups up to 100 people about eBay trading in 10 Flemish cities.

Even later, while working as a project manager in my own company, I always enjoyed giving training, helping people understand the software they use, and see how differently people interact with technology.

At the end of 2000 I started working for end2end solutions, a startup website and web application development firm in Ghent, and became the first payroll employee. I helped the three founding partners grow the company over the next five years to an established web agency with a staff of about 12 people. We soon focused on the development of websites and web applications for government. As a project manager, I was responsible for the implementation of +25 web projects for several cities, towns, regional and federal government agencies in Belgium. I also did functional analysis and briefed the development team. 

It is at end2end solutions where I really started working on the bridge between business and IT. As a functional analyst I learned to talk the language of both sides, and bring business requirements and IT-implementation closer together.

Project Manager

Without any formal IT-training, I started writing and teaching about web design and the emerging digital world in the 90’s. Like everyone else I build a portal with some friends around the year 2000, which did not make me rich, but landed me a job as project manager in a digital agency.

I started and managed my own digital agency for 10 years up to 25 people before I sold it to the French AUSY Group in 2014. We focused on open source Drupal projects for government and large multi-national organisations. 

I'm an "account man", building long term relations with my clients and partners.

I'm specifically interested in creating the bridge between business and IT by being able to talk the language of both sides. I love to talk about the differences and similarities between the IT-industry - which I know very well - and other industries.
