I don't hear people saying this often. But someone had to put this out:


Treat your freelance writers as in-house folks.

That's how they'll:

➡️ better understand your product/service. You'll see a major difference in the first drafts provided by a writer who knows your product in-and-out vs a writer who has a very high-level understanding.

➡️ understand your content marketing goals. So many freelance writers don't know what the goal of the company they're working with currently is. So, they don't focus much on those goals while writing. Again, there's a major difference in the first drafts provided by a writer who knows your goals vs one who doesn't.

➡️ Inform them how your product will evolve. Give them regular updates about product updates. That's how they'll know which feature to prioritize or stress upon while they write for you.

➡️ Stick with you. The last thing you want to do is lose your best writers. If you want freelance writers to prioritize your projects, and deliver the best-quality work, you need to build trust and loyalty.
