Head of Environment and Sustainability

Edinburgh Airport

As Senior Environment Manager at Edinburgh Airport I lead on the airports environmental strategies including net zero and waste and recycling as well as managing an ongoing water quality investigation. 

I have been involved in a wide range of environmental and sustainability projects and am very proud of the results of these initiatives which include reducing carbon emissions, increasing on site recycling segregation and implementing waste re-use opportunities.

Senior Environment Manager 

Responsible for developing and delivering the environmental strategy, ensuring compliance with all legal obligations and requirements and working with teams across the airport to understand our environmental impacts and reduce our negative impacts while enhancing the positive.

I monitor, analyse and prepare environmental data to allow for informed decision making across the business acting as a subject matter expert within the business. 

I have built a strong network, both internally and externally and work collaboratively with others to solve problems.

Environment Manager

As Communications Project Manager for the Airspace Change Programme, a complex project with the aim of changing the aircraft arrival and departure route to the airport, I was responsible for ensuring that the project remained on-track and external deadlines were achieved as well as ensuring compliance to CAA processes. 

I worked with suppliers, contractors and third parties to develop potential new routes ensuring that all stakeholder, operational and environmental issues were considered. 

I supported the consultation process; ensuring that appropriate materials were developed and that all consultation feedback was logged and reviewed by the wider team as well as developing and attending community and stakeholder consultation events.

Communications Project Manager

As Communications Officer I was responsible for delivering the internal and community engagement strategies. 

I worked with teams across the airport understanding their role and helping them to promote the work that took place within their teams as well as managing reward and recognition schemes which included organising the annual black-tie staff awards dinner. 

I produced a wide variety of communication materials including; staff newsletters and updates, community newsletters and the annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report as wells as co-ordinating events such as airline launches, team events and celebrations to mark key milestones.

I joined the Community Board as secretary and co-ordinated the process of awarding funding to local community and charity organisations.

Communications Officer

Nicki Souter Associates

I was responsible for running a trial of reverse vending machines across a number of community and university locations. My role involved conducting a range a monitoring such as observation, focus groups, and surveys and analysis data to prepare recommendations on factors that would be important to a future scheme. 

In addition I supported the wider team with a number of community engagement events and data gathering exercises with the aims of improving kerb side recycling by understanding barriers to recycling and how these could be overcome. 

I worked with photographers and designers to create materials which explained and encouraged recycling across a number of local authorities.

Junior Consultant

Following the sale of Edinburgh Airport in 2012, I worked with the Communication and Engagement Manager on a six month rebrand project.

The project involved; conducting a full site audit to identify and record all instances of logo's across the campus and working with designers, suppliers and staff to ensure the complete rebrand across campus including; vehicles, uniforms, signage, stationery, promotional products, posters and leaflets ensuring that the project met key milestones in terms of budget, rollout and timing.

I also supported the team with day to day activities including; writing reports and newsletters, managing the work experience programme and general admin duties.

Communications Project Officer

Birmingham Airport

Working in the Government and Industry Affairs department, I was part of the team maintaining and enhancing Birmingham Airport's environmental credentials and compliance. 

My role was to build and maintain relationships throughout the local community. I was responsible for monitoring the noise and track keeping system, investigating and responding to all community noise and environment related enquiries and complaints and managing the environmental and community sound insulation and vortex protection schemes as well as promoting and encouraging good environmental performance from airlines. I conducted community noise investigations and reported these in a clear, non-technical way back to local communities.

Environmental Relations Assistant

I worked with the CSR and Environment Manager on a two month placement organised through the Bright Business Partnership, which was then extended by the Communications Team for an additional month.

Key responsibilities included; investigating carbon accreditation schemes and preparing baseline data to allow accreditation to be achieved, organising an energy awareness event for security staff, collating and analysing staff survey data and producing summary reports for senior staff and editing articles for staff and community magazines.

Student Placement

VisitScotland

As Visitor Services Advisor I was worked on the frontline on the tourism industry, helping visitors to Scotland through; planning itinerary's, booking tours and accommodation and assisting with general enquiries. I worked in a variety of information centres during my time at VisitScotland including; Princes Street, Edinburgh Airport, Falkirk and Linlithgow.

Whilst working in the airport office I created the ‘Green Team’ and achieved the Green Tourism Business Scheme 'Silver' award.

Visitor Services Advisor

Bambelela Wildlife Care

I spent three months volunteering at Bambelela, a privately-owned wildlife rehabilitation and conservation farm located in the Limpopo district of South Africa, whilst studying for the Field Guide Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) level 1 exam. 

Responsibilities included the day to day care of animals including; vervet monkeys, genet, warthog, porcupines, general farm cleaning and maintenance and proving tours to visitors to the centre including individuals and school groups.

Student volunteer

Chartered Environmentalist with experience of developing and implementing environmental strategies, engaging internal teams and working with stakeholders to deliver results and demonstrate continual improvements. Passionate about embedding sustainability within the culture of the organisation and motivating and empowering others to deliver results. Known as someone who gets things done and works well with others.
