I work as a computer-book acquisitions editor for Apress, Inc. My job is essentially to recruit authors to write books, and to ensure growth in my assigned topic areas. My personal focus areas are Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, and general database topics. I also have broad responsibility to influence and guide Apress's coverage of database topics across all of Apress's publishing lines.

From December 2006 onward, I have worked as a volunteer emergency medical technician (EMT-Basic) for the Alger County Ambulance Service. Through to July 2008, I had regular and recurring responsibility for patient care during emergency transports. In July 2008 the service upgraded from an EMT-Basic level of service to the EMT-Paramedic level. Since then, I typically assist the medic on scene and then drive while the medic takes responsibility for patient-care.
