Now they were up to stage two. They needed a website that was beautiful, smooth, user friendly with unique custom features. And most importantly, an actual e-commerce site.

And so the Redsyte team got to work. 

One of our senior copywriters, Sarah Weiss, our skilled design team and two master developers all joined forces to bring this vision to life.

A while back, I was featured in Mishpacha magazine.



Though I wasn't promoting my business, I recognized it as a chance for branding exposure which is always important as one never knows who will see it.

No, I didn’t get any known website leads from that exposure, but a curious fellow did reach out to me with a question.

The article focused on work-life balance and I mentioned that I use WhatsApp on a desktop and not on my phone.

His inquiry wasn’t business related– he wanted to know more about my WhatsApp set-up on desktop.

And I was more than happy to assist him.

My tech experience from working at TAG comes in handy sometimes!

A prospect reached out for a rush-job minisite.



Rush-job meaning two days.

My first thought: 

We could pull off a site in two days. It isn’t impossible. We’re known for speed.
Of course a rush fee would be in order to accommodate such a tight deadline.

My second thought:

Nope. While a site built from scratch in two short days would be nice and functional, there’s no way it would be on the standard of quality we set ourselves to deliver.

We usually let our designs simmer for a few days and come back with fresh eyes.
We take customer feedback seriously and tweak until it’s perfect.

Skipping any steps messes with quality. 

So I turned down the project.


You know those VIP offers, where copywriters promise a 5-page website in a day?

I don’t get it.

How can they nail it without the client’s review, feedback and allowing them to ‘sleep on it’?
How can they write high quality copy in such a short time?

Or do they initially frame the offer as one that is subpar in terms of quality, but worth it due to its swift delivery? 

I’m genuinely curious here. 

Would love to hear from copywriters who offer this ‘book-me-for-a-day’.

Copywriters often don't get the recognition they deserve.



Think about it.

How often do you see the copywriter credited on an ad?

On a brochure?

On a website?

Rarely, if at all.


Yes, there is ‘white label’ and there is the concept of ‘I pay for the work’ so there’s no need to credit.

But I’m talking about when it’s standard to credit a company, like on ads and websites.

I credit Redsyte on every website we create. (I don’t put our copywriters name because we’re an agency with copywriters part of our team.)

But when we collaborate with a separate copywriter, outside of @Redsyte I make it a point to credit both myself and the copywriter in the footer of the website.

I think it’s only fair.

This practice goes beyond professional etiquette; it’s about acknowledging the collective effort that goes into website creation.

And I don’t understand why companies don’t do this.

Without this deliberate recognition on my part, the copywriter would’ve found herself in the uncomfortable position of having to request I credit her in the footer too.

Emails are a great mode of communication. 

Until they’re not.


Yes, email is convenient, quick and efficient.

Until the clients don’t reply because they’re just busy.

Or the back and forth leaves important details unclear and causes unnecessary confusion.


That’s when you need to switch gears and pick up the phone.

Now, I’m not the biggest fan of these quick calls. But I’ve come to realize that sometimes, they are the best way to get things done.

I’m talking about a quick call- a simple 5 minute conversation– nothing fancy, just enough time to iron out the details, clarify the confusion and get things back on track.

A while back, someone reached out to me about a project.

I quoted my price and was met with silence.

I followed up twice.

Nothing.


When he came back to life, around a year later, my prices had seen a significant uptick.

I sent over the updated pricing and clear terms.

He responded: “How can I reach you?”

Sigh.

I knew what this was going to be about.

As I expected, he kept me on the phone for 20 minutes, weaving promises about how his connections could potentially bring in more clients for me and how this project would help my business boom.

Thanks. But no thanks.


P.s I’m usually good at keeping these calls super short. This prospect seemed to have a knack for keeping the conversation going.

Have you ever fallen for the promise of ‘Give me a discount. I promise it’ll be worth it for you. This project will bring you a ton of business!’?

What’s going on?




I received a message from a guy asking, “Hey, do you still do web design? I don’t see you on LinkedIn”

A day later I got a voice note from someone else, questioning if I’m still on LinkedIn.

Guys- I’m on LinkedIn four times a week!

Isn’t it strange?


A while later, I found myself thinking about someone I used to see and interact with on LI. “Whatever happened to X? Is he still on LI?

I checked his profile and saw that he’s active, posting almost every day.

I haven’t seen him in my feed for months!

So weird.

LinkedIn- what’s going on?



This just goes to show you that if you don’t stay in front of people, they’ll never associate you with what you do.

For those who see me on LI, they know I’m the website guy.

For those who don’t, well I’m nothing.

Read it!





I sent web copy to a client to review and wrote in the email that we could get on a call to discuss.

We got on a call a day later and it was evident that the client hadn’t even opened the document.

So there I was, patiently waiting on the call and he was leisurely scrolling through the text, reading the lines aloud like it’s storytime.

“Oh, I really like this”

“Hey, this line is so cool!”

“What did you mean with this word?”

And I was sitting there thinking, ‘Are you for real? You’re going to read eight pages of copy on a call?’ 🤦‍♂️

I mean, come on, read it yourself in your own time, jot down some notes and let's have a meaningful discussion later.


Sometimes when I send the copy over, I’m tempted to add a line saying, ‘Please read the copy’, but that just sounds too silly.

But the last laugh is on me- because they march onto the call without having read a single word! 

I really think I should add that line to the email! 😃

I’m on a Whatsapp group for business owners

Someone posted this question:

‘I’m looking for a web designer/developer to create a website. There are so many out there and I’m so confused. How do I go about choosing one?’

I answered privately, but since I know that this question will resonate with many people here on LI, I’ll share my response here.


💰 PRICE

Determine your budget range before diving in. Instead of locking yourself into a single number, allow some flexibility for negotiation and finding the right fit. Once you know roughly how much you want to spend, you can eliminate all those service providers who fall outside of your criteria.

🧑‍💻 PORTFOLIO REVIEW

While browsing testimonials and recommendations is a great way to find out about the level of service a web builder provides, this industry has an added advantage: A portfolio! 
Take the time to explore the portfolios of potential website builders and the quality of work should speak volumes. Visual examples of their work can provide valuable insights into their style and capabilities.

🗓 TIMELINE

Clearly define your project timeline and deadlines. If you need a website within a month, it’s not worth reaching out to service providers known for projects spanning 4-6 months.


Then there are some basics you should consider (Testimonials could help you with these)

🟣 Clear communication: Look for people who are responsive and transparent in their communication.

🟣 Easy to work with: Look for people who appreciate your vision and who are receptive to your ideas and feedback.

🟣 Great service: Look for people who are committed to providing support throughout the project.


Finally trust your instincts. The initial interaction with a service provider can often reveal A LOT about whether they are the right fit for your project.

Awkward moment.



I was on a call with a client. Two clients actually. 

Two men (brothers) who jointly owned a business

They were both French speakers.

After I finished presenting what I felt Redsyte could do for their business, they started chatting to each other in French.

I have no clue what they were saying, but I figured they were discussing my pitch.

It sure wasn’t intentional, but it felt uncomfortable. 😅


If you ever want to communicate during a call without the other person catching on, here are two options:

You can simply tell the service provider you’ll think about what they said and have your little chat after the call. 

Send your colleague a quick whatsapp message or private zoom message. (That’s what I do with my copywriter.)


If you must do it on the call, then at least stick to English, or a language the service provider understands. Yeah, it’ll still be awkward but at least less awkward than French!

Can we get on a call?




I’m sure you’ve had vague requests like this one land in your inbox.

Here’s how I handle them:

I usually respond, “Sure, I’d be happy to chat. Can you give me some more context on what this is about?”

You should know what the purpose of the call is beforehand.

For two reasons:

Sometimes you’ll see that a call isn’t necessary. A simple email or a clear Loom video could do the job.
Having some clarity ensures that you’re not caught off guard and can prepare accordingly.

When getting into tricky conversations like budget negotiations, you have two options.



The nicer option:

Is to slide in to help them out with something like, ‘Oh, so are you saying that it’s too expensive?’

The not-so-nice option:

Is to keep quiet and let the prospect get it all out. Let them stammer and stutter until they get their words out. (Sometimes it can take a good 5 minutes!)


In regular life I opt for option one, because I try to be a nice person.

I only resort to option two when I’m dealing with a client that’s rudely trying to negotiate with me.



In general though, it sometimes is a good idea to keep quiet and let a guy finish talking.

Take this scenario:

Boss: X, I’d like you to come into my office to discuss your salary.

X: Sure, I was actually thinking about asking you for a 5% increase.

Bad move X.

Who knows? The boss might have been contemplating giving him a 10% raise. 

And now he ruined that chance because he didn’t wait to listen to what his boss had to say.

Here is the most common request I receive:



“Can you make the logo bigger?”


It’s often the very first thing people comment on once they see the designed draft.


But here’s the thing: Websites aren’t ads.

When someone lands on your site, they’re already there- they know who you are, they know you exist. 

Unlike an ad where a big logo grabs attention, websites are more about guiding users to what they’re looking for.

Sure, your logo should be visible, but it doesn’t need to be the main event. It's about finding the right balance between showing off your brand and giving users space to breathe and navigate comfortably.

So when clients ask for a bigger logo, I usually take a step back and explain why I intentionally made it the size I did.

It’s usually the thing I have to explain on repeat!
