Ever since I set foot in the world of IT, I’ve been trying to bridge the gap between business, technology, and user experience. They're complex entities, and they both tend to have some difficulty understanding one another. I got my bearings working as a functional and business analyst at Belfius. But it didn't take long for me to notice the shortcomings of a typical waterfall process in digital product development. To put it discreetly, things weren't happening at the rate they could have. I pondered the question: How come a ginormous corporation, despite their funds and internal talent, moves so much slower than, say, a start-up? The answer? They were: • Using siloed teams instead of small, multidisciplinary teams to tackle projects. • Swearing by endless roadmaps rather than short development cycles. • Waiting until launch day instead of involving end users every step of the way. You could ask yourself why any of that matters. Well, let me be frank here: if you're not at the bleeding edge of digital innovation, your chances of being left in the dust increase tenfold. To prove there was another way, I made a lateral move and became an intrapreneur at the Belfius Studio. I rallied a team of four, very specific experts, and went full agile. Only a few months later, we'd shipped a brand-new, fully functional fintech product. At this point, all I wanted to do now was share this way of working with other companies who might be in need of some metaphorical tailwind. And that's why Bothrs came to be. Initially, it was just me and my brother, Stef. Two dudes, shipping projects over the weekends. We focused on what end users wanted, and used all the tools at our disposal to bring them the experience they were after, as quickly as possible. The Bothrs way. And here we are today. We've traded our kitchen table for a office. Instead of only my brother and myself, we've got several, dedicated, cross-functional teams. Bothrs has flourished into a mature digital product studio and I couldn't be more proud. We've now branched out and started offering creative capital to ventures. And we've got a product of our own, too! It's called Healthblocks, a low-code SaaS platform for digital health solutions.
