⚠️ I watched "Hitler and the Nazis, Evil on Trial" documentary on Netflix and I can’t stop thinking about the parallels.

I’m not a historian, but I care deeply about democracy.

And as I watched, one thought hit me hard:

History doesn’t repeat itself.
But it rhymes in terrifying ways.

This is my opinion after seeing worrying similarities between 
🕰️ 1930s Germany vs. USA today

1️⃣ Repetition turns lies into “common sense”
🇩🇪 Then: As journalist William L. Shirer wrote after witnessing Hitler’s rallies:
“It did not matter so much what he said but how he said it. … Germans easily believed anything he said, even the most foolish nonsense.”
Hitler turned emotion into obedience. Lies, repeated with conviction, became sacred truths.
 🇺🇸 Now: In the age of social media, style still beats substance. Emotion drives allegiance. 

2️⃣ Destroying trust in truth
 🇩🇪 Then: 1933. Jewish books were burned to “end Jewish intellectualism.” The regime seized control of the press, arts, and education.
 🇺🇸 Now: Journalists are attacked, censored, and delegitimized. Science and facts are threatened. France Presse Agency's Director warns: “Violence, intimidation, and censorship are spreading, both in Europe and the US”  

3️⃣ Spreading hate against clear enemies
🇩🇪 Then: Jews were depicted as the root of every problem. The “enemy within” that justified violence and control.
🇺🇸 Now: The same pattern returns: migrants, the left, or “global elites” are painted as existential threats. At Charlie Kirk’s memorial, Trump escalated vows of political payback and said he “hates his enemies", even as Kirk’s widow urged forgiveness. 

4️⃣ Use economic frustration to justify authoritarianism.
 🇩🇪 Then: The regime solved mass unemployment through public works and rearmament, selling it as national revival. Propaganda praised dictatorship: “Thank God we don’t live in a democracy anymore.”
 🇺🇸 Now: Populist leaders claim to “restore greatness” through protectionism and control. 

5️⃣  Militarization and “law & order” politics
 🇩🇪 Then: Fascism replaced debate with violence. Hitler was obsessed with “The strongest will prevail over the weakest.” 
 🇺🇸 Now: Trump talks about "winners" all the time. He deployed National Guard units in Portland and Chicago despite local objections from the mayors and the Courts. ICE is illegally deporting thousands of migrants. Trump just floated the Insurrection Act and convened top officers at Quantico.

🧭 William L. Shirer, who witnessed the rise of the 3rd Reich, warned us:

“We cannot be complacent. 
What happened there can happen here.”

Trump’s movement, in my view, shows many of the same early signs that Shirer described.

Fascism never arrives overnight. 
It grows when ordinary people stop paying attention.

Yesterday LinkedIn blocked my post for "hateful speech". Here’s how to avoid it and what to do if it happens to you 👇

What a paradox!

Yesterday, LinkedIn blocked one of my posts.

The topic?

A reflection on the rise of authoritarian patterns in the U.S.. 
Inspired by the Netflix documentary “Hi*** and the Na***: Evil on Trial.”

I had worked hard to make it factual and respectful.
And I used ChatGPT to help me stay within LinkedIn’s policies.

ChatGPT reminded me to 
- clearly state: “This is my opinion.”
- stay factual, not polarizing --> To raise awareness, not hate.

The result?

 ✅ 5,000 views in a few hours.
 💬 Dozens of comments.

 And then
🚫 email saying LinkedIn blocked it for “hateful or bullying content.”

So I used ChatGPT again: 
this time to read LinkedIn’s content policies and write an appeal.

A few minutes later, the post was reviewed manually… 
and unblocked. 🙏

🧭 What I learned

1️⃣ LinkedIn actually does protect responsible discussions.

2️⃣ Their algorithm reacts to sensitive topics (like the name of the German's leader with a moustache in the 40s), but humans can fix it.

3️⃣ AI can help you write about sensitive topics safely

❤️ Why I’m sharing this

Because my original goal was simple:

To raise awareness about the dangers of hate and disinformation, not to spread them.

I’m glad LinkedIn ultimately stood by that principle.

A platform that protects free speech without normalizing hate is exactly what we need right now.

Five months pregnant, I tasted a $400 chocolate that changed how I see the food industry.

This was in a cacao farm in Ecuador.

The chocolate came from ten ancient cacao trees: 
genetically unique, almost extinct.

Each tree has its own tag, its own flavor, its own story.

And each harvest tastes different, depending on the soil, the rain, and the season.

Like wine, but for chocolate.

Except no one ever gets to taste it that way.

Because most of the world’s cocoa is blended and industrialized.

All the subtle notes of origin… gone!

The industry erased the chocolate identity for the sake of consistency.

That day, standing with my cofounders from To'ak Chocolate (the same people who later started Orijin with me), I realized something simple but fundamental:

flavor is data.

Behind every cocoa bean is a story of place, process, and people.

And if we lose that, we lose the story, and the value that comes with it.

That moment eventually became part of Orijin's DNA.

What started as tasting terroir in chocolate became a mission to make it visible.

Maybe chocolate doesn’t need more sugar.
Maybe it needs more origin 😉
