"Innovative entrepreneur with a passion for creating sustainable and cost-effective solutions. Inspired by a beautiful houseboat in a Spanish harbor, I dedicated two years to research and analyze the market to develop a more affordable option. Visited shipyards in various European countries to gather insights, ultimately resulting in the development of a business model that allowed us to sell bonds and self-construct a series of boats.

In addition to overseeing the legal structure and contributing to the sales team, I also spearheaded the serial production process and assembled the construction and mechanical engineering teams. Successfully brought the technical production to life.

Erasmus For Young Entrepreneurs

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a unique opportunity for new entrepreneurs to gain the skills and knowledge they need to manage a small or medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) by spending time in a business in another EU country. The program, which is financed by the European Commission and operated across 21 EU countries, provides on-the-job training for new entrepreneurs, allowing them to develop their business ideas in a real-world setting.

The program also encourages exchanges of experience and information between entrepreneurs, allowing them to share insights on the obstacles and challenges they face when starting and developing their businesses. Additionally, the program helps entrepreneurs to enhance market access and identify potential partners in other EU countries, which is a valuable asset for any entrepreneur.

Networking is also a key component of the program, as entrepreneurs can build on knowledge and experience from other European countries. The program is operated by more than 100 intermediary organisations competent in business support, such as Chambers of Commerce, start-up centres, incubators, etc. Their activities are coordinated at European level by EUROCHAMBRES, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which acts as Support Office.

Overall, Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a valuable opportunity for new entrepreneurs to acquire relevant skills for managing a small or medium-sized enterprise and foster cross-border transfers of knowledge and experience between entrepreneurs.

Host Entrepreneur for European Exchange Program

Consortium Greenport NHN - project EVERGREEN EFRO

As project manager for the Consortium Greenport NHN's EVERGREEN EFRO project, I was responsible for leading the development and implementation of new technologies for "Teelt op Water" (cultivation out of the ground) techniques. This included overseeing project planning and training and development for the team members involved. The goal of the project was to find innovative ways to grow crops using hydroponic and aquaponic methods, with a focus on increasing efficiency and sustainability in the agricultural industry. The project was a success, resulting in the implementation of new techniques in the Noord Holland region, which helped to boost the local economy and improve the efficiency of the agricultural industry.

Youmantas Energy Farms Foundation

I served as the General Director of YEF from August 2008 to January 2019, a period of 10 years and 6 months. YEF is an organization that was established in 2007 and has been active in the field of Aquaponics since 2009. The company's objectives include promoting sustainable, innovative, and circular food production techniques like aquaponics and hydroponics, and applying them to prove them as viable business models.

In 2010, YEF won a special award for introducing Aquaponics in Education. The company is a partner in projects with schools, prisons, community workshops, and non-governmental organizations. In 2013-14, YEF designed and built Europe's largest Aquaponics installation for an urban farm (UJES) in Rotterdam.

YEF is a small organization with low overhead costs, its activities are project-based. The management has a flexible, hands-on mentality and is open-minded towards new developments and cooperation - not only in the sector of food production but in the large field of agribusiness, innovation, and education.

YEF is involved in water projects because the company believes that scarcity of water is one of the main challenges in increasing the world's food production capacity. Introducing water reuse combined with the reuse of nutrients - the basis of Aquaponics - is a first meaningful step.

The company has experience in 'inclusion', in the past it was active in educating teenagers with autism and disabilities. Aquaponics is a way of food production where people with all kinds of disabilities can participate.

In terms of 'entrepreneurship', YEF's approach is to prove that innovations are economically viable by cooperating in commercial agricultural projects.

Senior Experts VNO-NCW The Hague

The Hague Area in Netherlands is home to PUM Netherlands senior experts, an organization that aims to contribute to the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in countries where economies are weaker than those in the Western World. PUM is committed to promoting private sector development by sharing knowledge and expertise with entrepreneurs in these countries, a powerful way to empower people and communities economically.

PUM has a pool of 3,500 volunteer experts who undertake over 2,000 missions each year. The organization operates in 70 countries across Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Near East, Russia, and Eastern Europe. The effectiveness of PUM's work lies in the fact that its experts provide advice on a personal basis, from entrepreneur to entrepreneur, on the work floor.

PUM was founded in 1978 and has since grown to become the largest temp agency for professional volunteers in Europe. The organization is supported by the Dutch government and the largest employers' organization in the Netherlands, VNO-NCW, which allows it to continue its mission of supporting SMEs in developing countries.

Consortium GreenTech NHN campus - Project 'Vis op het Droge'​

The aim of the project 'Fish out of the water' is to develop teaching modules on sustainable fisheries and Aquaculture for Technical Vocational Education and Training and Applied Sciences in Agricultural Schools and the realization of active cooperation between the aquaculture sector and knowledge institutions.

Youmantas Energy Farms, Aquaponics Fish Farm Design and Installation

In March 2013, I was involved in the system design and installation of an Aquaponic fish and vegetable farm for "Uit Je Eigen Stad" (UJES) in Rotterdam. UJES is a city farming project located in the heart of Rotterdam where a (greenhouse) vegetable and fruit farm, a biological chicken farm, and an Aquaponics fish and vegetable farm are established within an urban area. The products grown on the farm are processed in the farm's own restaurant and sold through the farm's own shop to local restaurateurs and individuals.

The Aquaponics system I designed and installed included fish tanks with a total water volume of over 100,000 liters, two production lines for Tilapia (3.6 tons p.a.) and African Catfish (3 tons p.a.). In addition, a new greenhouse was built to house the integrated system where various types of vegetables were grown on cultivation tables (around 400 sqm)

The aim of the project was to create a sustainable and efficient way of producing food within an urban area, the project UJES is an excellent example of how urban agriculture can be integrated into the city, providing fresh and healthy food, and creating jobs and educational opportunities for local residents.

AOC  Clusius College Alkmaar

This partnership received a Dutch "Green Urgency" Award in national contest 'for the best in educational green sustainability solution in the category' food '. 
The competition "Green Urgency" is an initiative of Aequor Council and the AOC Board of Agricultural Colleges. As the winner, we received a sum of € 5,000, -, provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.

Clusius is a vocational school in the field of agriculture, environment and health. The school has 8 branches with more than 5000 students. Youmanitas and Clusius have initiated and established the first European course on ‘Aquaponics’ (the cultivation of fish and plants in a re-circulating system, RAS and NFT system) , that will start in September 2011. Clusius and Youmanitas received the annual AOC- award in 2010 for the best innovative ‘green’ education project.
