Program/Project managed two shelters with a  combined 250 client capacity. Oversaw a staff of 27 part-time and full-time employees.

Women's Emergency Shelter Program Manager 

Human Solutions

Transparently program/project managed a no-turn-away family shelter with a staff of 12 Staff Advocates and 10 Staff On-call Advocates.

Review contracts, expenses, and budget management for compliance with Federal regulations and policy. 

In collaboration with the Human Solutions Finance Department, proposed, implemented, and Stage-Gate measured a new system for employees to clock in and out in order to tighten regulation of employee hours worked. This action resulted in an increase between $2,000-$4,000 to the shelter budget. 


Review Federal and State grants and support reconciliation of issues or concerns.

Managed shelter operations including pest abatement, annual testing of backflow systems, and commercial kitchen systems, in order to improve living conditions of the shelter. 

Create and review reports on grant development and status as required. 

 In collaboration with staff, created a staff breakroom which resulted in an increase in staff morale and welfare. 

Conducted weekly client/staff collaborative meetings; resulting in the strengthening morale of shelter guests as they took initiative to take better care of shelter space and community. 

File all Project/Grant information used to support grant development in the HMIS Case Management system.

Empowered staff, through open communication training and supervision, to focus on self-care while delivering services to families in a high level of crisis.

Family Center Shelter Manager

Transition Projects

Transparently-project and program managed a women’s shelter-union-represented staff of 12 Residential Advocates, 35 Residential On-call Advocates, and a  custodial advocate.

Utilized Stage-Gate techniques to measure the innovative process and requirements before moving on to another stage in the change process. 

Create and review reports on grant development and status as required. 

Ensured shelter safety with a convivial environment to a broad diversity of people experiencing homelessness-including people of all races, nationalities, languages, ages, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

In collaboration with the Logistics Manager and use of Design Thinking, revised and restructured shelter logistics, budgeting techniques, and ordering systems for all shelters/transitional living facilities within the organization. 

Partnered with a professional chef to design/implement a food program without additional expenses to the budget

Improved staff monthly training, morale, and welfare resulting in optimal operational efficiency. What resulted was an increase in the annual client-to-housing count, reduced violent incidents, and the lowest full-time employee turn-over rate amongst Transition projects in Low Barrier Shelters.

Submitted a Supervisory Position Proposal-first assistant manager of the shelter, emphasizing self-care and empathetic communication. The proposal was granted and resulted in a high level of client satisfaction. 

Under the guidance of the Director of Shelters, with exceptionally constricted time constraints, established the need and converted the shelter from overnight operations to a 24-hour shelter. 

In collaboration with the IT Department, reviewed and revised methods for collecting accurate data for shelter count-Service Point; resulting in a decrease in error rate from 47% to 5%; contributing to the improvement of Transition Project facility data collection.

Met with clients once per week (Caseload of approximately 40clients).   

Assisted in case assessment, goal plan setting and connection to appropriate services resulting in a high rates of employment amongst clients.  

Gained knowledge of various housing opportunities, developing an active housing resource file to assist clients with a rapid transition into housing.  

Developed, with clients, a service contract outlining steps toward self-sufficiency.  

Assisted clients in locating housing within context of program guidelines.
