I used to wait weeks to test a simple product idea. Now I can validate concepts before lunch.

Replit – Enables quick spin-ups, testing, breaking things, and starting over. Feedback loops become instant.

Cursor – Shows that thinking clearly matters more than thinking like an engineer. The tool handles syntax.

The unlock isn't learning to code. It's learning to prototype without permission.

The goal isn't to replace engineers. It's to validate faster.

The best ideas still need proper engineering. But now the right ideas get identified way earlier in the process.

This shift has transformed product work more than any framework or certification ever could.

The feature that turned a cultural ritual into a billion-dollar habit

In 2014, while most tech companies were chasing Western-style growth hacks, WeChat quietly launched a small experiment called the digital red envelope (or hóngbāo).

It seemed simple at first: send money to friends inside a chat. But what followed was pure product brilliance.

Millions of people started sending red envelopes almost instantly.

Not because of discounts or marketing, but because it tapped into a tradition that had existed for centuries - gifting good luck during Lunar New Year.

Group chats became competitive as friends raced to open envelopes first.
Families who lived far apart could still share joy in real time.

And to send one, users had to link their bank accounts, turning WeChat from a messenger into a payments app overnight.

Within days, billions of envelopes had been exchanged.

A feature became a movement, and it changed how people thought about mobile payments in China.

It remains one of the best examples of how understanding culture can drive product adoption at scale.

The most powerful ideas rarely invent new behaviors. They find a way to make existing ones effortless and meaningful.

Should interviewers give feedback at the end of the interview?

Campus hiring is in full swing in India, and while taking interviews with soon-to-be graduates, I’ve started trying something new when it feels appropriate.

If I believe the candidate will genuinely benefit, I take a few minutes at the end to share quick, skill-based feedback. Not about the hiring decision, not about “where they stand,” but simply about how they can present their stories better in future conversations.

Over the years, interviews have become very mechanical.
You answer questions.
You wait weeks.
And when the result finally comes, it usually arrives without context.

This is especially tough for behavioral rounds, where there is no right or wrong answer. Many candidates walk away unsure of what went well or what they could improve.

So in campus interviews, I occasionally share observations that might help them.

So far, most candidates appreciate it. A few get curious.

And yes, there are always risks - someone may take it personally or argue, which is why I only give feedback when it feels right and I keep it strictly focused on skills, not on the decision.

But for the most part, it has led to more thoughtful conversations and clearer takeaways for the candidate.

A better way to tell their story

Interviews don’t always have to feel like a black box. Sometimes a tiny bit of direction can help someone grow, even if they don’t get the role.
