In all seriousness, the main killer for most business owners is that they don't have the time or the inclination to write their copy or content themselves.

It's not that they don't know how to write, it's simply that they know where they want to be, but not how to get there with their copy.

Sadly, for the business owners (and the kittens), this means that there's a lot of crap copy flying about, or inoffensive but not effective 'we just needed something up on our website' type of copy.

The real kicker is that nobody will tell you that your copy is crap, they'll just click off your website never to return again, and you'll be none the wiser (or richer).

Well smack the humour out of me and call me James Corden, because there’s nothing funny about bad copy and content.

If I got £1 for every time I saw a poorly written website I knew I could fix, I’d have the equivalent of one takeaway and a bottle of (regular) Coca-Cola – we are in a cost of living crisis, after all.

I get it.

For a lot of my clients, the same barriers to focusing on their website copy and wider content tend to come down to:

👉 Lack of time or inclination (writing, unsurprisingly, isn’t a joy for everyone)

👉 Being too close to the business and not knowing where to focus

👉 Their business changing over time but the copy/content no longer matching


These realisations will usually occur when you notice:

😭 Nobody is booking calls or filling out forms on your website

😭 You might get compliments on your website, but not in the form of leads

That means that a few well-placed pieces of social proof can not only prove that you’re doing what you say you are, but that you’re also not full of 💩

So get combing your LinkedIn recommendations, website and Google reviews, and any testimonials.

Because they’re a goldmine for your website copy.

Plus, they give you key insights on what your target audience love most about your products or services…

So make sure you’re lifting those words and benefits too.

You’d be bananas not to.
