After years of being told to “tone it down” and “act more professional” in my 9to5, I said f*ck that, left my job and started my own coaching business. The honest truth is painful and I want to share it with you here. In 2015, I was hired for my personality and for being a good culture fit. In 2019, I was forced out the company because I no longer fit the mould. When your personality is your best and biggest asset, it’s a hard rejection to take when it’s no longer accepted. In my final 2 years, I was 👇🏼 - Denied promotions & pay rises because it wouldn’t look good to management - Told I was a negative influence on junior team members cos I spoke up - Continuously reminded of how people were perceiving me in the office - In & out of manager / HR meetings I’d be myself and be told to tone it down. I’d tone it down and people would remark I wasn’t being myself. I felt trapped in a job that no longer appreciated me 😥 I didn’t know what to do about it. I really couldn’t see a way out. I didn’t want to go to another job. When I left my job, back in 2019, I was so excited to drop all the corporate bullshizz I’d been made to believe and actually show up as myself, without any filters. Except for the first six months, it wasn't the case. I was scared to show off the real me in case people wouldn't take me seriously in business. I spent 6 months muting myself until I realised I had to become the leader for people just like me. I had to use my voice to be a voice for others. I had to show people they could be themselves, whilst building a business, rather than hiding in fear. Once I decided to build my business on my terms, unmuted, I felt free, empowered & unstoppable. I've built my entire business around flipping the middle finger to all the traditional rules of business, saying f*ck it to what the majority of people believe, and to be unapologetically you.
