I write emails. I’ve written thousands for ecom brands large and small. My clients pay me serious money because my emails work. They grab attention, get themselves opened, and persuade customers to buy stuff. (My clients love that last part.) I’m successful because my emails are highly personal, informative, often funny, and always entertaining. They connect. They engage. Customers look forward to them, open them first, learn to love and trust the brand. They buy more often, at higher prices; they tell their friends. They become LOYAL fans. Fair warning though: You’ll have to be willing to rock the boat, to stand out. If I write your emails, they’re going to be different from anything your competitors are spitting out. My emails are not what your customers will be expecting, and maybe that’s because I’m not exactly what (or who) you might be expecting. I didn’t follow the usual path to professional copywriting. While others worked soul-crushing marketing agency jobs or whiled away their young lives in a classroom, I was doing . . . other things. Like: * Criss-crossing Guatemala as a human rights observer working with indigenous activists. * Working as a horseback tour guide by day and bartender/cook by night on a dude ranch on Kodiak Island, Alaska. (Yes, the home of the world’s most dangerous predator.) * Organizing eco-defenders in the battle to save Ancient Redwood forests (nothing focuses the mind like hanging from a rope 300 above ground while someone chain-saws your tree.) * Fighting forest fires and responding to medical calls in rural Northern California as a volunteer firefighter. * Building a tiny cannabis business into a licensed multi-million dollar manufacturing corporation with distribution channels throughout California. * Consulting with multi-million dollar cannabis start-ups (CA to MA) on cultivation and manufacturing facility design, implementation, and business strategies. * Playing 5-string banjo and singing backup in a honky-tonk band. So ya, I’m a road-less-traveled guy, and that’s just the shortlist. These “jobs” taught me something they don’t teach in school: namely, how to establish genuine rapport with people by building personal, one-on-one relationships. I had to learn this to survive. These days, I do it through the emails I create for my clients. Got a genuine ecom product or service that delivers honest value? Need some help building a loyal base of repeat customers? Hit me up.
