Our team of kick-ass entrepreneurs, ecosystem builders, and changemakers from all over the US met while organizing Startup Weekend Remote USA. We worked alongside each other, day in and day out, to plan and execute the largest Startup Wekeend the US has ever seen. We brought together 1,300+ participants, mentors, facilitators, and partners to build solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic and the world thereafter.

Inspired by the stories that came out of the weekend, the Yoink Media team formed around the central idea that storytelling has the power to break down barriers of entry to entrepreneurship. By humanizing entrepreneurship and telling the stories of entrepreneurs all over the world, we inspire, engage, and empower people everywhere to start and grow their companies.

We connect philanthropic running by empowering organizers, runners, charities, and donors with the tools they use, all in one place. Leveraging running events as fundraisers, we are expanding the experience portfolio of NPOs across the country. Running events are a great way to reach new audiences, spread messages, and establish new partners. As we host more and more events,  we are training NPOs across the country on best practices for all aspects of events and fundraisers. Our goal is to lower the CDC's number of deaths for the leading causes of death, get philanthropic donations to 5% of GDP, and connect 1M volunteers.

How do you feel when you think about writing process #documentation? 📝 

If you're feeling overwhelmed or guilty for not starting your documentation, here are 5 tips to help you start (the same tips are also in video format):

1️⃣ If you have no documentation, or no accurate documentation, STOP researching tools. Use a tool you already have. Use what's easiest for you. Just start! Write your first 10 pieces of documentation. You can delegate or hire someone to migrate to a new tool later after documentation exists. But it is much more difficult/impossible to hire someone to extract the process info out of your brain.

2️⃣ Write your own processes first. Writing other people's processes will be more difficult, to try to gather information about processes you don’t have personal knowledge about. Get in the documentation habit first to gain momentum.

3️⃣ If you don't like writing, start by creating a voice recording or use one of many GIF or Loom-like tools just to get started, then transcribe it to your written process steps. Make sure you have a written version in addition to your audio/video, for reasons that I won't get into in this short post. Link or embed the audio/video into the text document <--the source of truth.

4️⃣ Write in the second-person point of view – the ‘you’ voice. Starting each step with a verb can help you write this way. So it doesn’t say “I do this, I do that," or else other people won’t think the process applies to them, or they won’t want to edit/improve it.

5️⃣ Have someone else test the document after you've revised it once or twice, to help make the steps and the context clearer for everyone to use. Don’t spend too much time perfecting the first draft. Sections or steps can be labeled "in progress" if you have tasks to revisit later and add to them each time you perform the process. Remember, it's living documentation and should be updated at least quarterly. It's never "finished" so relieve some of that pressure for it to be perfect. Get some feedback early.

With all the new features HubSpot is constantly releasing, it can be easy to forget about some of the older features that can simplify your life.

For example, if you want to customize your newsletter based on the sales rep that manages the account. 

Have your rep write a short blurb and then use smart content in your emails to personalize them.

Alternatively, use smart content on your website to change content based on UTM parameters of a visitor, lifecycle stage, or other information stored in your CRM, if your visitor has been tracked via a cookie.
