Since 2020 I have raised millions using pitch decks, I have wrote decks for A-list celebs such as Jude Law and Elite Athletes, here are my top 5 tips:

1) Keep it simple. Investors are busy and often read multiple decks in a day/week, so make sure your document STANDS OUT and is easy to understand. Keep the design light and use plenty of white space, big words, and no more than one picture per page. Aim for a 12-page document that clearly conveys your brand.

2) Follow a standard layout. Start with a title slide, then include an elevator pitch, information about your team, traction, problem, solution, why you will win, product, market size, unit economics, financials, competition, and finally, your ask. Make sure to put the team slide towards the front, as it's the most important and will be the first question investors ask.  

3) Keep it brief. Most investors prefer decks that are 10-12 pages long. If yours is longer, consider whether all the information is necessary or if it could be condensed.

4) Use clear language. Avoid industry jargon and assume the reader has limited knowledge about your specific field. Use the ELI5 approach ("explain like I'm 5") and provide a table of terms for reference if absolutely necessary. I have never done this though! 

5) Be transparent. Don't try to hide any weaknesses or uncertainties. If you have no revenue, say so. If you are forecasting for the future, clearly differentiate between actual results and assumptions.
Use a PDF for sharing. Web links can be unreliable and aren't as effective for sharing with stakeholders. Use a PDF to ensure your deck can be easily accessed and reviewed.

Read your deck yourself, you don't need external validation, if you aren't excited, if you switch off, if you wouldn't invest then its not good enough!
