There was a time I couldn’t stand the person I saw in the mirror. At over 80 kgs with a BMI of 30, I was 20 kgs overweight, feeling unconfident, ashamed, and lost. Every glance reminded me of the emotional weight I carried. Buying clothes felt like a punishment, and deep down, I hated who I was becoming. The struggle wasn’t just physical. A prediabetic diagnosis loomed over me, fueling chronic anxiety, sleepless nights, and panic attacks. Thoughts of suicide crept in as I battled low self-worth and a life devoid of purpose. I was stuck in a loop of negative self-talk and unhealthy habits, following a script society wrote: finish school, land a high-paying job, and be the “good boy.” My career as an actuary looked impressive but left me feeling empty. Between 2016 and 2020, I dabbled in self-improvement, listening to podcasts by Jay Shetty and Dr. Rangan Chatterjee and reading sporadically. These planted seeds, but real change didn’t happen until late 2019, when I realized most of my beliefs and decisions were shaped unconsciously by societal expectations. I was living on autopilot. In 2020, I finally listened to the voice in my head: “You need to lose weight and reclaim your health.” This wasn’t just about fitness—it was about tackling mental and emotional barriers. The mirror became my wake-up call. I started intermittent fasting, beginning with 12-hour fasts and gradually extending to 23-hour fasts. Consistency became my mantra. Instead of chasing instant results, I focused on the process. Home workouts like climbing stairs and pullups became my routine, even during lockdowns. By November 2020, I had dropped over 20 kgs, going from 80+ kgs to 60 kgs in nine months. But the transformation went beyond my body. My panic attacks subsided, sleep improved, and I rediscovered purpose. The journey taught me self-respect, confidence, and the courage to forge my own path. This wasn’t about a magic diet or quick fix. It was about reclaiming control and breaking free from autopilot. Today, I help others navigate health and mindset transformations. I know what it’s like to feel lost. But with the right tools, consistency, and support, it’s possible to turn things around.
