I can grow my hair like a goddess.

That is why I chop it off and donate it every couple of years.

This morning I went in expecting an 8-inch haircut. I walked out with over 12 inches gone.

And honestly… I had a pit in my stomach all morning.

My long hair is part of my identity, so this felt like a big deal. I instantly wanted something to make me feel better.

Chocolate-covered pretzels. Warm croissants. Cheese. A bagel with cream cheese.

All of it was calling my name.

Not because I was hungry. Because I was uncomfortable.

Several hours later, I am still upset about my hair.

But I am also really proud of myself for not numbing that feeling with food.

Because the goal is not to remove every trigger from your life.

It is to learn how to sit with discomfort without outsourcing it to snacks, sugar, or “starting over tomorrow.”

Who has it harder with age… men or women?

Controversial take?

Women feel it harder.
Men ignore it longer.

Let me explain.

Women hit midlife and it can feel like their body flips overnight.

Estrogen drops.
Sleep shifts.
Recovery tanks.
Fat distribution changes.
The same workouts and macros suddenly stop working.

It feels unfair. Because it kind of is!

The hormonal shift in perimenopause is abrupt. It is loud. It demands adaptation.

But here is the part no one talks about...

Women are forced to pay attention.

They start asking better questions:

• Why is my blood sugar unstable?
• Why am I inflamed?
• Why am I exhausted?
• Why am I gaining abdominal fat despite doing “everything right”?

That awareness becomes power.

Now let’s talk about men.

Men experience a gradual testosterone decline starting in their 30s. It is slower. Quieter. Easier to dismiss.

They can get away with poor sleep, high stress, weekend drinking, and inconsistent training… for years.

Until one day:

• Muscle mass is down
• Visceral fat is up
• Labs are off
• Energy is flat
• Cardiovascular risk is elevated

It did not feel dramatic.

It accumulated.

So who has it harder?

Women experience the sharper biological disruption.

Men often accumulate the deeper metabolic consequences.

Women’s challenge is intensity.

Men’s challenge is neglect.

Here is the verdict:

Neither gender “has it harder.”

But the one who refuses to adapt has it hardest.

Midlife is not about eating less.

It is about:

✅ Preserving muscle aggressively
✅ Training for insulin sensitivity
✅ Managing stress like it matters (because it does)
✅ Sleeping like it is a performance variable
✅ Matching food quantity with food quality

Aging is not the problem.

Unadjusted strategy is.

If you are 40+ and your old approach is not working, that is not a failure.

It is a signal.

And high performers do not ignore signals.

You are overcomplicating meal prep. Here are three tips that will make your meal prep go from dreadful to highly useful 👇

1) Start with prepping your weakest link. If you always skip breakfast because you “don’t have time”, then prep breakfast. Once it is mastered, layer in another meal.

2) Don’t set a goal to try one new recipe each week. Unless you are chef, this will lead to burnout and a bunch of wasted ingredients.. Try 1-2 new recipes a MONTH and keep recycling older favorites. Eventually, you will have over 30+ recipes you can crush without dreading grocery run.

3) Use your dang freezer - especially for vegetables! Most people hate buying fresh vegetables or fruit because they go rotten before you had a chance to cook them. The good news is, most grocery stores offer frozen vegetables and they can last months. Throw those suckers on the saucepan and they taste delicious.

Protein bars suck… there I said it.

Not only do they taste like a gooey brick by the end of the bar, but they are also causing MORE nutrient gaps in your diet.

Let me explain: 👇

If you allot between 150-300 calories for a protein bar that has little to no nutritional value besides protein, you are creating a 150-300 calorie opportunity cost.

You could have a snack that is similar in calories, protein AND convenience by having real food (yum!) instead! 🫐

With the real food, you will also get more fiber, more micronutrients and less processed chemicals/junk.

🥣This snack has had me on a chokehold lately… cottage cheese with berries and seeds (optional).

Here is how these macros shake out:

• Calories: 247
• Protein: 26g
• Fat: 5g
• Carbs: 18g
• Fiber: 8g
• Sugar: 14g

Adding seeds would increase it by 95 calories, 6g fat, 8g carbs, 6g fiber and 0g sugar.

✅ These fats are unsaturated, high in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids and the berries are high in antioxidants amongst several other benefits.

🤩The bottom line is, you only have SO many calories to consume in one day when losing weight.

Every calorie counts. So you might as well improve the quality of each calorie to get the most bang for your buck…

Stop mindlessly eating chips! Your body doesn’t need it and the calories add up fast.

One serving is just seven chips, but most of us eat way more without noticing.
That’s 140 calories, 7 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbs — basically empty.
Drink water, track portions, or swap for something filling.

Small mindful changes like this make healthy habits stick.

Your workouts are basically useless if you don’t focus on these three things:

1- Proper breathing. You are generally supposed to inhale in the lowering part of the exercise and exhale in the lifting part of the exercise. You are leaving gains on the table if you don’t lift WITH your breath.

2- Most compound exercises prioritize grounding/driving through your feet. Don’t be afraid to drive through your heels and “grab” the ground with your toes. And on this note, try wearing flat footwear. Don’t lift in running shoes!

3- You should be thinking about the muscle group you are targeting, while lifting. For example, if you are doing bicep curls then you should be thinking about your biceps contracting.

You could reach your goals years in advance if you lock in these three, unconventional, things.

P.S No workout is useless, but you could make it MUCH more effective with these tips!

When was the last time you intentionally took off time from exercise?

This is called a deload week… and it’s one of the only things that will keep you sane!

Every 6-12 weeks (depending on the routine) I take almost a whole week off of training, or at least a very scaled back version of it.

I train my clients the exact same way.

It may seem counterintuitive, but chopping up your workouts into phases & taking breaks actually propels you forward.

I’ve maintained a 600-calorie deficit daily for the last month. Here’s how I survive 👇

1. First thing is first: I want to lose body fat more than I want a treat. I’ve turned down desserts, alcoholic beverages, french fries, etc., because I am determined to lose body fat. I still schedule in “cheat” meals to stay sane, but majority of the time I don’t overindulge.

2. I track my calories and macros ahead of time. I log my predicted meals the day prior so I always know how many calories/macros I have left to eat through the day. This helps me determine if I will have peanut butter protein shake OR a goat cheese salad…. But certainly not both! (Too much fat in one day)

3. I mindfully eat. I pay attention to my food as I consume it - the taste, texture, how I’m feeling… I don’t typically scroll on social media or eat at my desk. Food time is sacred and I prioritize it like an important meeting.

4. I drink a ton of water and electrolytes. You WILL be hungry in a calorie deficit…. that’s kinda the point of losing weight… your body pulls from the fat that is already there instead of fueling from food. When I’m hungry, I drink water or electrolytes to get me to my next meal.

Hot take: when it comes to losing body fat between ages 35–55… men usually have the advantage.

Before anyone gets angry in the comments, this isn’t opinion. It’s physiology.

Multiple studies comparing male and female weight-loss outcomes show the same pattern: men tend to lose more weight than women when following the exact same diet and exercise program. One review of 11 studies found men lost significantly more weight in 10 of them.

In one large trial with more than 2,000 participants, men lost about 16% more body weight than women (11.8% vs 10.3%) during the same low-energy diet.

So what’s actually happening?

It comes down to three physiological differences.

1️⃣  Muscle mass
Men naturally carry more lean muscle. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, meaning it burns more calories even at rest.

2️⃣  Resting metabolic rate
Because of that muscle, men typically burn hundreds more calories per day than women doing the same activities. Some estimates suggest 500–1000 additional calories per day on average.

3️⃣  Hormonal biology
Women naturally carry more body fat and store it more efficiently due to estrogen and reproductive biology. At the same BMI, women often have ~10% more fat mass than men.

And between 35–55, the gap can widen.

This is the phase where many women enter perimenopause and menopause. Estrogen begins to decline, sleep often worsens, muscle mass slowly drops, and fat distribution shifts toward the abdomen.

Translation: the physiology is literally changing.

But here’s the part most people miss.

Just because men lose fat faster doesn’t mean women can’t lose fat extremely effectively.

Women simply respond better to a different strategy.

The women who thrive in their 40s and 50s usually do three things differently:

1️⃣  Prioritize strength training to maintain muscle

2️⃣  Increase protein and fiber to stabilize blood sugar

3️⃣  Focus on sleep, stress, and recovery (because hormones matter) - and maybe HRT if its right for you!

When those pieces are in place, body composition can change dramatically.

I’ve seen women in their 40s build more muscle and lose more fat than they did in their 20s.

Not by starving themselves.
By understanding physiology.

Fat loss after 35 isn’t about “trying harder.”

It’s about working with your biology - and building muscle!

I never thought I would be competing against a robot in my career but here we are…

At least 5 people over the last month said to me:
”I just plugged in my information to chatGPT and it wrote me these macros and meal plan that I am trying to follow”

While AI is intriguing and helpful in many ways, I know I am not the only one concerned about the future.

This is what an honest 2-month fat loss phase actually looks like.

I went from 152.8 pounds to 148.4 pounds over the last 8 weeks.

Not a crazy transformation, but I can definitely see changes in my body and how I feel.

Here’s exactly what the last two months looked like.

My goal macros were:
1830 calories
160g protein
70g fat
140g carbs

I also try to keep fiber and sugar around 25g per day.

Some days I go over or under on certain macros, but as long as my calories are within range overall, weight loss will happen. It really is that simple.

Training wise, I’ve been lifting HARD 4 days per week.

I don’t have a strict step goal, but I usually go on a 2-mile walk at least twice a week and add some kind of high-intensity cardio once a week.

Alcohol wise, there were only two instances over the last two months.

• One drink on a night out
• One day of “day drinking” when I was in Florida having a good time (probably 5–7 drinks over about 8 hours)

My sleep has been fantastic.

My period… not so much. Terrible PMS and extreme pain on day 1. So hormones are still doing their thing.

The changes in my body are subtle, but I definitely notice them in my sides, lower back, upper back, and stomach area. My collarbones and face also look less puffy.

My goal range is around 138–142 pounds.

Originally I thought I would get there by the end of April, but realistically this cut will probably last a little longer. If I can get to around 144–146 by my trip in April, I’ll be very happy.

I’m expecting to hit my full goal weight somewhere around Memorial Day weekend.

My top 3 takeaways from this cut so far:

1️⃣ Take the extra minute before you eat to track your macros. It works every time.

2️⃣ Plan your meals ahead of time. Most weeks I know exactly what I’m eating 7 days in advance. If I’m going out to eat, I leave calories for it.

3️⃣ You have to want fat loss more than you want the sweet tooth. I want chocolate. I want mochi. I want to keep eating most of the time… but when I’m satisfied, I stop.

You have to decide where the line is and stick to it.

• Dumbbell Runner Lunge Rotations x8
• Tricep Push-Ups x8
• Single-Leg Row x8 (each leg)

• Alternating Reverse Lunge x10 (total)

You’ll hit every major muscle group, elevate your mood, and regulate stress hormones in less time than it takes to make lunch.

One of the most underrated nutrition skills: letting a craving stay small.

I see this happen all the time.

Someone wants something “picky.”
A square of chocolate.
A handful of chips.
Maybe a small treat after dinner.

But instead of just having the thing they actually wanted… it turns into a whole production.

The chips become chips and dip.
The chocolate becomes dessert.
Then something salty after the dessert.

Suddenly, the original craving isn’t even the point anymore.

One of the simplest nutrition habits you can build is this:
Have the thing you wanted. And let it end there.

No guilt. No overthinking. No spiral.

A small craving doesn’t need a big response.

Any plans this weekend?

Only 10-20% of the global population reaches 90 years old, and my Mommom is one of them.

I had such an awesome time celebrating her 90th birthday this weekend - it was deal or no deal themed (her favorite show).

The day was full of laughter, love and good food 🍽️

You know I am in a fat loss phase of my journey right now, but I saved up allllll my indulgences for this party.

Ribs, pasta, Mac & cheese, chicken Marsala, coleslaw, sausage, charcuterie, buffalo chicken dip… we had so much variety and it was all SO GOOD!!

This is just one example of how I put my coaching philosophies into practice…

👉🏻 Be 100% on, 80% of the time. So when you are at an important event, you can indulge - feel no regret & stay on point with your progress.

I plan out my indulgences far in advance, so my random Tuesday night cravings never get the best of the me.

I just patiently wait until I know it’s time to grub 😜

Mindless grazing can sneak in calories without you realizing it.

Plating and measuring snacks helps you stay in control.
Sometimes, all that “snacking” is just your body asking for a proper meal.
Weight loss isn’t just about eating smaller things — it’s about quality and satisfaction.

Make meals that fill you up, not just little bits here and there 😜

Do you find yourself craving snacks all the time throughout the day?

Over 80% of people have already given up on their new year resolutions by now.

If that’s you, here are four rules to follow to get back to it:

1. 6 Week Reality Rule
It takes roughly 66 days for a habit to become automatic (there is a big range here, like 18-254 days). Weeks 4-6 are the “friction window”. Pre-decide that these weeks are more challenging & mentally they will be easier to tackle.

2. The Never Miss Twice Rule
Miss once? Human. Miss twice? Pattern. Resume at your next opportunity, reflect and change so it does not happen again.

3. The Baseline Capacity Rule
If your routine is not sustainable on a stressful Tuesday, then this routine is not for you. It’s unrealistic and that is why you keep failing. What is the minimum effective dosage you need to keep seeing results? Do that.

4. The 1% Return Rule
If you stopped working out, return to only 10 minutes. If you stopped tracking, start with just protein. If you stopped walking 10k steps, start with 5k. Crawl your way back to walking.

Two people start dieting. One steadily loses weight. The other is stuck, exhausted, and starving.

Both want to lose 10 pounds.

Same age.
Similar height.
Both motivated.

But their bodies tell two very different stories.

Person #1 hasn’t strength trained in over five years. Work got busy, life happened, and workouts slowly disappeared. Most of the weight they carry now is paired with relatively low muscle mass.

So when they start trying to lose weight, this is what happens:
• They drop calories
• The scale barely moves
• Energy crashes
• Workouts feel exhausting
• Hunger goes through the roof

Their body is trying to protect what little muscle it has left. Metabolism is slower, recovery is harder, and every pound feels like a battle.

Now meet Person #2.

For the past five years they’ve been lifting consistently. Nothing extreme. Just showing up 3–4 days a week and progressively building muscle.

When they decide to lose 10 pounds, their experience looks very different:
• They eat slightly less food
• Keep lifting
• Walk more
• Weight steadily drops

Why?

Because muscle changes the entire equation.

More muscle means:
• Higher resting metabolic rate
• Better insulin sensitivity
• More calories burned during training
• More places for nutrients to go besides fat storage

In other words, their body has an engine.

The first person is trying to lose weight with a compact car engine.
The second person is doing it with a V8.

This is why I’m always talking about strength training.

Muscle isn’t just about looking “toned.”
It’s about making weight management easier for the rest of your life.

Build the engine first. Fat loss becomes the side effect.

I have grown to hate leg day.

Does that mean I skip it?

No way!

Because that is what fitness is all about…

Repeatedly doing things you don’t want to do for the sake of the desired outcome.

I don’t actually want to cook a healthy dinner every night, but I do it because I want a healthy body composition.

I don’t actually want to spend an hour working out every day, but I do it because I care about my heart and lungs.

I don’t actually want to fall asleep on time over the weekend, but I do it because my brain and muscles need good sleep.

👉🏻 The bottom line is, fitness can be hard for people who don’t want to “go against the grain” and do things that don’t always bring them joy.

✅ But the reality is, all those sacrifices is what gets you results.

Do the things you don’t want to do, because one day you’ll see yourself in the mirror & be so proud you stuck with it!
