Heather Crank is a multidisciplinary artist, motion designer, and creative technologist whose work lives at the intersection of human intuition and artificial intelligence, merging human touch with machine dream. With over a decade of experience as an Art Director and Designer, she now focuses on exploring the subconscious potential of Generative AI. Through a unique process of interpreting AI “hallucinations” as dreamlike imagery, Heather creates vivid, hand-painted artworks that blur the boundaries between machine and myth, code and canvas. Her work is both a technical exploration and a poetic one—an invitation to question where imagination comes from, and what it means to co-create with living intelligence. When she’s not painting or animating, Heather teaches workshops and speaks to creative teams about the evolving role of AI in art, helping others navigate this fast-moving space. As a Gen AI educator and speaker, she has taught teams at major companies how to harness AI tools with intention, artistry, and responsibility. These include; the University of Southern California Creative Summit "Riptide", Adobe Live "Storyboarding in Adobe Firefly" Salesforce, Prologis, Laetro and Parachute Homes. Her classes go beyond software—diving into ethics, imagination, and what it means to be a creator in the age of algorithms. Heather also explores the poetic side of AI, using hallucinated outputs as portals into the subconscious, reinterpreting them through paint and brush in her fine art practice. Crank's work lives at the intersection of dreaming, digital futures, and human intuition. Heather is celebrated for her remarkable versatility and creativity, capturing audiences with dynamic films showcased at prestigious venues like the Guggenheim, Meow Wolf and the SUPERNOVA Animation Festival. With an impressive clientele spanning technology, film, music, and education, Heather’s work exemplifies exceptional skill in both motion, graphic design and Gen AI. Crank holds a BFA in graphic design from the California College of Arts, and is a recipient of the Adobe Achievement Award as well as a silver IDA. Heather is also a collaborator/co-founder of the podcast "The Developing Life" focused on interviewing creative thinkers, empathic leaders and the ethical use of AI. In 2022 Heather had the privilege of being profiled by Debbie Millman in her ongoing exploration called "What Matters"
