"Nobody is blowing out their number at my company."

A woman AE told me this last week.

She's at 5 new logos when her goal is 6-8.

She's already over her annual revenue goal.

But she's waking up every morning thinking about work because she "might not hit her number."

Wait, what?

This is the reality for women AEs right now.

Quotas are set so high that 190% of last year's performance still feels like failure.

Clawback provisions that make you question every deal.

And the constant message that if you're not "crushing it," you're not trying hard enough.

Here's what I wish someone had told me when I was stressing out about my number:

Your worth isn't your quota attainment.

The system is broken, not you.

The best sellers I know have stopped playing by rules that were never designed for them to win.

10 pieces of sales advice I’d give you if I wasn’t afraid of hurting your feelings

1\ You aren’t working hard enough on the right things. 

Prospecting takes work. 

Being on top of your deals takes work. 

But that work puts money in your bank account and time back in your personal life.

2\ You’re letting your calendar control you. 

Saying yes to every meeting and hoping prospecting will happen magically isn’t a plan. 

Block revenue‑generating activities and treat those blocks like doctor’s appointments - miss them and you pay.

3\ You’re confusing motion with progress. 

A full day of tasks isn’t the same as a full pipeline. 

If your calendar is busy but you’re not talking to prospects, you’re doing admin, not selling.

4\ You’re skipping follow‑up because you’re afraid to bother people. 

Most deals need six or more touches. 

Prospecting takes 9 - 12 touches.

If you give up after one email, you’re handing deals to someone else.

5\ You’re using “prep” as procrastination. 

Yes, know your prospect. 

No, you don’t need a thesis. 

Spending hours on LinkedIn is hiding. 

Progress and action over perfection wins every time.

6\ You’re not asking for introductions. 

Warm intros close faster and easier. 

Your satisfied clients and colleagues know people who need your help - ask them.

And do the work to make it easier for them (in other words, ghost write the email for them).

7\ You’re resisting automation and AI. 

Writing every email from scratch doesn’t make you more personal - it makes you inefficient. 

Use tools like ChatGPT to personalize at scale and free up time for real conversations.

Use AI to add to your skills and your efforts.

8\ You’re neglecting your health and boundaries. 

Working 12‑hour days and skipping meals isn’t hustle...it’s burnout. 

Sleep, eat, move. 

You’ll close more when you’re not running on fumes.

 9\ You’re letting fear of rejection run your day. 

Every “no” is part of the job. 

If you’re too scared to ask, you’re saying no on behalf of your prospects. 

Ask anyway.

10\ You’re not owning your pipeline. 

Your manager, marketing, or “good luck” won’t fill your funnel. 

It’s your job. 

Own it, build it, and nurture it.

If you are basing your AI on the prompts you are using, you're doing it wrong.

I know this because that's me - I'm doing it wrong.

I am on a mission to get a better grip on AI.

Up until a few months ago, I considered myself fairly advanced as AI user because I had some amazing prompts.

I use AI every day in the coursework and 1-on-1 sessions I do with sellers.

I have some ridiculously good prompts that get to the prospecting points you need to cut through the noise these days.

And sellers tell me they learned how to use AI properly after working with me.

Big pat on the back - and then a sudden realization I'm not even scratching the surface here.

I don't want to know how to prompt AI - I want to know the guts of AI.

As in, I want a real in-depth understanding of how to use AI in my business to move everything faster in less time.

And more systematic ways to help the women AEs I work with become top performers in way less time.

We use it heavily now in my program for research - but the answers I'm looking for are not better prompts. 

It's a better mission.

I have always said I want the women I work with to turn their company into an ATM.

I have also said I want them to do it without burnout and as efficiently as possible.

#topperformerlife means being capable of doing your job in less than 30 hours a week.

I know AI will change the game on the last part.

So, I talked to a couple of women who are on their A-game with sales and AI who made me realize I'm doing it wrong.

Kendra Wagner and Kora Hodge both gently showed me what a masters in AI for sales looks like (and that I'm probably at a grade 3 level right now).

I talked to an SDR who is crushing it with AI.

George Mulcahey kindly took some time out of his day to explain AI for kindergarteners (me) a few months back.

And I saw the potential to learn how to really ramp my knowledge up.

And Jennifer Urbanski inspired me months ago when she talked about taking all the OpenAI courses out there (on the list!!).

So, I asked AI where to start on this journey (seemed like the thing to do) of getting to expert level, and the first book it recommended was this one.

So far, so good, but to be sure I'm on the right track, I would love feedback from all of you.

My favourite details so far:

- Data is the new oil
- AI is a prediction machine in the same way as computers are math machines

Most sellers lose the C-suite before they even start.

Why?

They come in with vague messaging.

“We help CIOs with digital transformation.”

White noise - you are immediately flagged as a sales email and don't get a second look.

Seriously...phrases like digital transformation are one of the fastest paths to get your prospect scrolling past your message.

You have less than 2 seconds to win the email recipient's attention to your message, so you need to cut through the noise in a hurry.

Best way to do that?

Start by saying something that the C-level you are messaging actually said.

Here are 2 things you can include in a message that will definitely get some attention:

1\ Their own words (pulled from a podcast or interview).
2\ A granular problem statement that shows you get what’s slowing them down.

Here’s what a strong opener looks like:

“In [podcast name], you mentioned approvals and reporting are split across three systems with no single owner, and it’s slowing critical projects by 30-45 days. 

We helped [peer/competitor/company that will be relevant to them] solve this by consolidating workflows and tightening governance which [share the transformation that occurred for your customer]. 

Happy to share a short video showing what worked for them if you are interested.”

This is their exact pain point, in their own language, tied to a clear next step.

That’s what gets a reply.

Bonus Tip: To make this a 5-minute effort:

1️⃣ Google “[Exec Name] podcast guest.”
2️⃣ Upload the link to Sonix.ai for a transcript (use their free version).
3️⃣ Paste into ChatGPT and ask: “Find me one direct quote where this exec talks about a challenge or priority, and draft the opener above with it.”
4️⃣ You can also upload one of your company's case studies that shows how you solved the problem you are talking about to make this even more relevant and easier.

The secret sauce in prospecting right now is coming in with a super granular and relevant problem statement.

I think he might be the first financial planner I've seen who puts travel and life experiences as mandatory items in your budget.

When I work with a woman AE and we start to see her income climb, it's always followed by me saying, “You are starting to make a lot more money here, and it's time to think about what to do with it - time to talk to Ryan.”

147 % pipeline added in 90 days - here's how one of my AE clients did it.

One of my clients started the year with her pipeline hovering around 64 k. 

Ninety days after applying our system, she was sitting at 147 % of quota and her pipeline had exploded past 600 k. 

Here’s what changed:

• She stopped winging discovery. 

We built a framework that surfaces real pain in the first 10 minutes, so every call leads somewhere.

She also started ruthlessly disqualifying instead of letting the 'maybe this could turn into something' or 'I'm hoping something could happen here' into her pipeline.

• She committed to a four‑week prospecting rhythm - no more sporadic follow‑ups.

She put the work in and got systematic about her prospecting. 

It took some time to set up the system, but once it was running, she was able to action her prospecting activities in 15 minutes a day.

• She used AI tools to research her accounts and craft personalized outreach, so every touch felt relevant.

She leveraged AI for research to come up with a specific problem statement that resonated with prospects.

She used it for insight into moving deals along.

She also leveraged it to help make sure she was working with the prospect on creating a compelling event.

• She cut her prospect list in half and doubled down on the accounts that mattered.

Less people on her prospecting list meant more tailored outreach and better results.

While most sellers are trying to add more and more people to their list, she was trying to cut it down into small groups that made for really juicy potential.

The shift wasn’t just in the numbers; it was in her confidence. 

She went from scrambling to strategic, and it shows in her results.

Hello back and forth for 30 minutes and us left wondering if we should have just done it ourselves.

Most of us waste time wrestling with instructions when ChatGPT can do the heavy lifting for us. 

Next time, before you submit your question, ask ChatGPT to write the perfect prompt for you. 

Give it your raw thoughts - through text or a quick voice note - and ask it to organize your ideas into a clear, specific prompt. 

Use that in a fresh chat, and you’ll get a much better response.

Bonus tip - if you curse at ChatGPT (especially with the f-word....I know, I'm not proud) it starts asking you a bazillion questions before it performs the task.

So don't do that.
