🌍 The work-from-home coworking community to get got shit done and have fun while doing it!

🕺 I joined the team as the first full-time hire because I saw something broken: work-from-home was isolated and disconnected. I believed connecting online could—and should—be better. We needed spaces where we could connect daily, celebrate each other, cheer each other on, and transparently know each other's goals in life.

🪩 We grew from 23 beta testers to hundreds of paying members worldwide. From writing fun emails to hosting virtual events, I created content that kept our growing community engaged and connected. I learned firsthand that purposeful social rituals and daily interactions were key to driving real impact. Members didn’t just complete tasks—they built friendships, collaborated on projects, and celebrated milestones together.

💃 Groove became a space where people felt truly seen, carving their own career paths aligned with their values and personalities. It was incredibly rewarding to watch our community thrive, with members landing dream clients, making brave decisions, and supporting each other through highs and lows.

✍️ The Groove community newsletter I wrote was published for 150+ weeks, with an average open rate of 57% and 5k+ readers 👀 I poured a lotta love into it!

📅 I hosted monthly Goal Planning Parties for 30+ consecutive months and helped more than 1.5k people kick off their months with intention.

Started my career working directly with best-selling author and marketing leader, Seth Godin. Believe it or not...our office had Purple COWches. 🛋️

🧪 As 1 of 6 full-time employees, I wore many hats and ran experiments constantly. 

💻 I facilitated 200+ online events and conversations, including 4 virtual conferences with 3,500+ attendees and interviews with leaders including Simon Sinek, Bernadette Jiwa, Steven Pressfield, Sarah Jones, Natalie Nixon, Ramon Ray, and Alexandra DiPalma.

🧙‍♀️ I built the first decentralized virtual conference of its kind (all about the audience instead of speakers)...called the Real Skills Conference in 2019 before virtual conferences were cool...and the only thing to do. Zoom's product team called me after to ask how the heck I managed to stream into 7 Zoom rooms at once. 

💥 I'm most proud of the powerful 5-day online workshop I built for emerging leaders, ages 16-25. I managed the content, marketing, outreach, application process, training and managing of freelancers, and onboarding associated with this project. 📷 As a senior in college, I started working with Seth to build up his Instagram presence and "show up differently" on the platform. This resulted in a content calendar full of mini books, blog 'books', and podcast clips, as well as high-touch engagement voice notes in DMs. During my time managing Seth's Instagram account, his following grew by 208%. 

🚀 I also established a brand presence for altMBA and Akimbo, creating graphics, writing copy, posting, and engaging with potential students.

I’m a big fan of collecting learning experiences and connecting the dots to how they've shaped who I am today. Over the years, I’ve also worked at a craft studio 🎨, ran my own Etsy shop called Sonder Connections, supported an early-stage startup building communication devices for non-verbal individuals 💬, worked in restaurants and retail, and served as a camp counselor—proudly earning Counselor of the Year 3x! 🎉 Creating experiences that delight people is at the heart of everything I do...and has been for many years.

I've spent years building and leading founder communities online...always with a bit of sparkle and magic. ✨ I love connecting, whether it's talking to strangers in the grocery store, introducing two community members around a specific why, or hosting a sweet gathering. 💐

🎤 I’ve designed and hosted 500+ events, spoken on 50+ stages (virtual and in-person), and been featured on 40+ podcasts. I've also hosted 3 podcasts!

⭐️ My career began by working alongside best-selling author and marketing leader, Seth Godin. I designed and facilitated magical online workshops/digital conferences and built powerful community-based marketing initiatives for Seth's brand and altMBA/Akimbo (a network of 25k+ entrepreneurs and leaders at Fortune 500 companies).

🪩 Then, I joined Groove, a venture-backed start-up and digital coworking app, as the first full-time hire, building community from the beta pre-seed stage, to seed stage, to launching into a paid membership community of 500+ members with a mission to help entrepreneurs and creatives thrive together.

🦄 Today, I'm the Head of Community @ Dreamers & Doers, a highly curated network that amplifies extraordinary women entrepreneurs and leaders. Think of it as a VIP lounge for heart-centered women building businesses they care deeply about…with glitter walls and confetti raining down. I also run my own business and am available for community consulting, workshop/event design, and facilitation. I'm a proud Strategic Advisory Board Member for NYU Stern's Initiative on Purpose and Flourishing.

👥 "Sonder" has been my favorite word since 2014—it’s the realization that every random passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own. My love for this concept is woven into how I show up in the world every day.

Psst—a quick heads-up: I’m not a fan of filling my calendar with virtual coffee chats. I’d muuuch rather swap voice memos (Beep is my favorite tool for this) or meet up at a cool NYC event.

☝️I go to events alone.
✈️ I travel solo.
🎉 I wear bright colors daily.
📱 I have strict tech boundaries.
📆 And, I have dedicated 'me time' 3x/week.

None of these things came naturally at first.

Each change was born out of reflecting on what I actually care about so that I can live more in sync with my values. 

BUT, what surprises me most is *how often* people comment on what I'm already naturally doing...

🛫 That at the end of a story, talking about something funny that happened while in an airport solo (for example), the thing they circle back to is the fact that I was in the airport solo to begin with. 

Usually their comment is something like...

💬 “I’ve been wanting to try that, but never have.” 💬 
And, then share they're scared, nervous, or don't feel "bold enough".

Every time I hear that, I’m reminded how powerful it is when we show each other what’s possible.

A few years ago, I didn't do these things consistently either. 

But, I watched other people do them—friends, authors, podcast guests, speakers, people here on LinkedIn—and something in me thought, maybe I could too. 👀 

It's sometimes hard to trace exactly who inspired what, but the ripple effect is real. 

A collection of people have helped me feel more confident to do the damn thing, whatever the damn thing was. 🌊 

Every time we make a choice that aligns with who we are...
💡 whether that’s protecting our energy, 
👗 wearing what lights us up, 
✨ or showing up solo to do something we love

We quietly give someone else permission to do the same.
🪄 That’s the magic of it.

And, every time we realize, "oh, I’ve done that thing I once only dreamed of doing", it opens up new space to ask—what else might be possible?

I frickin' LOVE that beautiful cycle of possibility.

You probably SHOULDN'T build a community. 👀 

This was my main message while speaking at Swoogo's Unconventional Conference in New Orleans this week to hundreds of event planners. 

After a great event, maaaany event organizers will say, “We should build a community! Let's put attendees into a LinkedIn Group, or Slack channel, or [whatever other platform]."

Actually, correction, it's probably the event planner's BOSS who is suggesting this. 😂

My hot take is they really shouldn't.

After working side-by-side with Seth Godin for two years, these two questions ⬇️ have been drilled into my brain. 

👉 Who’s it for?
👉 What’s it for?

If you can't answer those in a really specific way, you don't have a good reason to build a community (yet). 

If your attendees aren’t asking for a space to stay connected—or if there’s no clear reason to gather them asynchronously in between events that truly provides value to them—that’s okay. 

Events can stand beautifully on their own. And, oftentimes, should! 

That said, sometimes there IS a great case for extending the experience. But to most people's surprise, it doesn’t have to be a big, ongoing lift.

You can get creative:
✨ Host a two-week post-event “sprint” in a community platform. After that, the community shuts down.
✨ Or, only invite a small subset of attendees to a pilot group. This way, you can learn before building something bigger. 

I'm a BIG fan of an MVC, Minimum Viable Community—a small, low-lift experiment to see what resonates, before you pour a bunch of resources into creating something that might not work.

If you want to build community beyond your event, start by asking your attendees: “What would be valuable about staying in touch with others in this room?” Ask variations of this at the event, before, after, learn as much as you can.

🏃‍♀️ If true value is shared, follow it and start building your MVC. 
🎉 If not, you’ve (probably) still created a fabulous event. And, that's great all on its own.

How my birdwatching/gator tour guide and I ended up talking about building community 🦅 ⬇️

Yesterday, I went on a New Orleans swamp tour. Part of the way through it, our captain shared with me his dream of creating an online community with his son to help high schoolers explore career paths in local industries.

🐊 Suddenly, we were deep in the bayou, surrounded by snowy egrets and gators, talking about…Skool vs Circle.

Because I’d mentioned I run a community for women entrepreneurs, he asked if I’d ever heard of those platforms.

And I got to say, “My friend Bri Leever actually made a YouTube video comparing those two!” and sent him the clip after. Now his dream has more momentum. He’s one step closer to making it happen, and said he’d focus this week on what it would take to get it live.

That moment (two strangers connecting dots on a boat in Louisiana!) reminded me why I love talking to people.

🍀 Sure, some of it is luck.
🔄 But a lot of it is practice.

Friends often ask how I end up in these kinds of magical exchanges where I find common ground so quickly and consistently. 

If I had to distill it down, it comes to this: 👇

👀 When you’re in a conversation, you have more power than you think to move it in an interesting direction.

Start by asking curious follow-ups that get to the WHY behind what someone’s sharing.

🏡 If they tell you they made a big move, ask, “What made you want to do that?”
💭 If they’re working on something new, ask, “What’s your dream for where that could go?”

That’s where the humanness lives—in the story behind our decisions and dreams. 

Someone recently shared with me the idea of “increasing your surface area of luck,”. This is a GREAT way to do it. By getting curious about someone’s why, you create a chance for connection and common ground.

💞 And when it’s your turn to share, openly share your why—your passion, your curiosity, or the dream behind what you’re working on. Don’t wait for someone to ask. Sharing can open the door to all kinds of magic: a question that clarifies your idea, a resource you didn’t know about, a connection to someone’s friend, or even a story from someone who’s been there before.

I’m a BIG believer in asking the deep questions and saying your dreams out loud. Drop the hints. See what happens next. Sometimes, the smallest comment can turn small talk into something big. ❤️
