My mission is to support those furthest from opportunity and to solve big problems. I've spent my career championing the needs of young people and their families, from birth to college. Through the generosity of incredible donors and partners and very talented teams, I have led efforts to raise $130M in gifts/grants ($65M+) and tax referenda ($64M). I specialize in fund development and strategic partnerships, but always through the lens of real relationships. I was born and raised in a small town near Boston, but have called Colorado home for more than two decades. I have expertise in developing long-term partnerships of purpose (philanthropic, programmatic, policy-driven, etc.), creating innovative revenue streams, development planning, coordinating development efforts across large systems, corporate partnerships, relationship management, foundation relations, grant writing (private, local, state, and federal), annual campaigns, major gifts, budget and program development, education policy, and program oversight. The problems I'm currently chewing on: - how we can blur the lines between K-12, higher education, and the workforce; - how short-term resources can be put to work for long-term change, particularly when addressing complex problems; - re-thinking traditional power dynamics within the philanthropic/non-profit sector; - understanding how policy and philanthropy best support organizationally-led systems change; - how we can create more emotionally intelligent but brave leaders; and - how to help development professionals focus more on authentic relationships and less on tactics.
