A bit about me:

Over the past decade, I’ve guided our branch’s clients with empathetic, values driven advice.

Here’s what that has translated into:

→ Securing over $200M in life coverage
→ Managing $30M+ SGD of funds across annuities and unit trust.

Some personal milestones:
→ Achieving Top of the Table in just 7 months
→ $500k APE in a month
→ $7M SPI in a single month

I’ve also had the privilege of building and leading 3 high-performing teams at Income, GE, and PIAS

Then in 2021, everything changed.

I found out my dad had cancer.

At the same time, my mum’s heart condition worsened.

So I stepped away. No hesitation.

For two years, I focused fully on my family.

And I’m thankful this career gave me the freedom to do that.

By the start of 2024, they recovered.

And honestly, so did I.

Mentally. Emotionally. Professionally.

I returned with more clarity and focus.

And rebuilt everything from scratch.

Not just my team and production.

But my purpose too.

Today, I lead a boutique branch at PIAS — one of the largest FA firms in Singapore.

We may not have the flash of mega agencies or branches.

...That does not define who we are."

Recently, a few clients from our branch asked, “What does the MDRT accolade actually represent?”

It’s a great question, and a meaningful one for me.

The term MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) has been familiar to me since my very first day in the industry.

So what is it?

𝙈𝘿𝙍𝙏 = 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘿𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚.

𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙖 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙥 10%, 5% 𝙖𝙣𝙙 1% 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙜𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮.

While personal production is the main metric, there’s another factor that plays a big role too: persistency ratio.

Persistency ratio measures how many clients continue paying their premiums consistently, without dropping their policies.

It’s a sign that the advice given was sound, and that the solutions provided are genuinely valued.

Now, here’s the truth:

It took me a few years before I earned my first MDRT.

Was I late? Probably.

But I’ve learned that it’s perfectly OKAY.

Because this journey isn’t about comparing with others.

It’s about becoming a better version of myself, day by day.

MDRT isn’t a sprint. 

It’s a marathon.

And those “superstars” we admire in any industry?

They’re not overnight successes. 

They’re built on grit, consistency, and resilience.

Here are the 5 stages of my MDRT journey:

	1.	Make prospecting a habit
	2.	Survive the first 2 years
	3.	Achieve my first MDRT
	4.	Invest in support staff and systems
	5.	Automate prospecting and scale up

And the secret sauce to qualifying for MDRT, COT, or TOT year after year?

Every single day I’ll remind myself of this:

I’m not paid to look busy. I’m paid to be productive.

So I make sure my calendar is filled with high-impact, purpose-driven activities.

Here’s something I found interesting over time:

The more I focused on chasing income… the less I earned.

But the moment I focused on helping people, sharing my journey, and solving real problems…

…my income grew 10X.

Turns out the gurus were right:

“Help more people achieve their goals, and you’ll achieve yours too.”

Wow, How many of us truly internalize that?

🚀 This might sound unpopular.

But “it’s not my job” is one of the laziest sentences we’ve normalised.

Yesterday at a hawker centre, I saw the opposite.

I was waiting for a table.

A group of uncles were finishing their lunch.

On the table beside them were dirty plates left behind by someone else.

One uncle picked them up to return them.

His friend said:

“Why are you clearing this? 

Let the cleaner do it. We only need to clear our own.”

The uncle replied:

“What’s the difference between me and the cleaner doing it? 

Someone has to do it anyway.”

🔥 🔥 

That line stuck with me.

Not because I was taught this growing up.

But because it’s something I’ve learned in adulthood.

That dignity isn’t tied to titles.

And kindness doesn’t need permission.

We talk a lot about values.

But values show up in the smallest, most inconvenient moments.

No one noticed him.

No one praised him.

And that’s exactly why it mattered.

If we want a better culture it starts with us doing things “out of the norm”

🚀 If you’re a young dad juggling work and family… 

…read this slowly.

Some days, you’re drained.

You want to give your best at work, but your mind’s halfway at home.

When that happens, just look at your child.

In the video, my boy asked me to carry him up the slope at a Korean zoo.

It was snowing hard.

I was tired.

Freezing.

But something in me didn’t hesitate.

I just picked him up and kept walking.

Because I know one day, he’ll ask me to carry him…for the VERY LAST TIME.

After that, his life takes over.

Friends, routines, responsibilities, they move on.

And the irony?

The more often we say “Not now” or “I’m busy”…

➤ the sooner that moment will come.

Every small “yes” you give today:

- every hug
- every laugh
- every bedtime chat

…gets stored deep in their memory.

Both the ones they remember, and the ones their heart quietly keeps.

So say YES more often.

Even when it’s inconvenient.

Especially when it’s inconvenient.

Because those are the moments they’ll remember you by.

🚀 “Prospects are liars.”

You’ve probably heard this before.

But the real question rarely asked is this:

What causes them to lie in the first place?

Most of the time, it’s not because they’re dishonest.

But because they don’t want to waste your time.

Very often, it’s also because trust hasn’t been built.

And “lying” is sometimes the easiest way to say “No” to you. 

Eg. “My spouse said she doesn’t feel this plan can help us”

And the uncomfortable truth?

We sometimes trigger that distrust without realising it.

Here’s how.

We ask predictable questions.

“What are your challenges?”

“What are you looking for in a solution?”

🙄

They sound reasonable.

But prospects have heard them many many times before.

When they hear them again, their guard goes up.

They shut down emotionally.

They give safe, surface level answers.

That’s not engagement.

That’s self protection.

When trust drops, they either fight or flee.

Then there’s tonality.

- Too excited and you sound desperate.

- Too flat and you sound uninterested.

- Too nervous and they sense uncertainty.

Top performers operate differently.

They work from high intent, low attachment.

They care deeply about the problem.

But they are not emotionally attached to the outcome.

That energy alone lowers resistance.

They also listen beyond words.

You ask, “Do you feel this could work for you?”

Prospect reply, “Yeah… yeah.”

Most people hear a yes and move on.

But hesitation lives in the tone.

Uncertain prospects don’t buy.

Ignore that signal and “I need to think about it” is coming next from prospects.

The fix is simple.

Top performers Call it out calmly.

“You sounded a little unsure just now.

What’s behind that?”

No pressure.
No judgement.
Just curiosity.

That one moment often does more

than ten polished closing lines.

What to focus on instead:
 • ask less predictable questions
 • manage tone, not just words
 • hold high intent without attachment
 • listen for hesitation, not agreement
 • address uncertainty early and gently

Trust isn’t built by pushing harder.

It’s built by making people feel safe enough to tell you the truth.
