People say I'm "lucky" to live the laptop life 

They're wrong.

Here's why:

I spent years:

Waking up at 5am before my law job to learn how to build a remote business. (Killed me)

Working on my mindset because I had major imposter syndrome.

Getting rejected 800+ times from cold emails to law firms I tried to sign as clients.

Working out how to do marketing, build a brand, copywriting.

Trying hard to stay disciplined & not lose hope.

Yes, I'm truly truly grateful for the life I have.

But luck?
Nah, I made it happen. 

I fought for it. Every day. 
And still do.

It had zero to do with "luck".

3 months ago I met Sophie in London.

If I hadn’t quit law, none of this would exist.

In just 3 years, I: 

- Built a global legal marketing business 
- On stage twice at Legal Tech Talk London 
- Spoke at the European Parliament.
- Created the 1st Linkedin Academy for lawyers
- Built an AI skills community for lawyers.
- Grew my law podcast to 30k+ listeners in 1 yr.

Most of all,
it gave me a broader perspective.

To step back.
To question.
To connect.

Because conversations in the transformation of the legal industry aren’t optional anymore.

I never thought I would have done any of this when I left law. 

We underestimate what we can achieve in just a few years, with daily continuous steps.

PS. but we all know none of this wouldn't exist without my time in law. 🙏

I quit my 9-5 law job for flexibility.

I believe this will be a trend in 2026.

Not just because people want more freedom.
But because AI is changing what’s possible.

For years, careers were built around structure, hierarchy & hours.

Now AI is tearing down those walls.

- Freeing us from tasks that drain us.
- Giving us space to serve at a higher level.
- Designing careers that fit our lives.
- Giving us time to be creative.

This is the real shift:

Fear of being replaced → to confidence in new skills.

Working harder →to working smarter.

Being tied to tradition →to choosing your own path.

AI isn’t the end of careers.
It’s the evolution of them.

30 days ago, I didn't think this would hit home

To my surprise, it did with 1034 lawyers

Here’s what happened:

Week 1: Launched The Global AI Skills Summit for Lawyers (practical training) waitlist.
515 lawyers joined that week.

Week 3: Announced registration was open.
The list grew to 1000+ lawyers.

Week 4: We closed registration.

👉Here’s what most surprised me:
The list is full of top lawyers around the globe.

-The biggest banks in the world
-Senior lawyers from Magic Circle 
& top 100 firms

Real disruption won't come from tech.

43% of law firms are adopting AI without a strategy.

Perhaps because:
- They're rushing to tick the “we use AI” box.
- Looks good in pitches.
- Reassures clients that they’re “keeping up.”
- Makes them feel innovative.

But AI is not a sign of innovation, 
it’s a culture shift.

And without strategy? 
It’s chaos dressed as progress.

We’re seeing:

1. Firms pouring money into tools they don’t fully understand.

2. Associates experimenting without guardrails.

3. “Innovation” teams that look impressive but lack integration with actual client delivery.

Firms without a strategy may think they're ahead of the curve.

But the reality is they’re building sandcastles.

And in law, fragility isn’t just inefficient.
It’s risky.

They expose themselves to:

- Breaches when tools aren’t vetted.
- Conflicts with data protection.
- A lack of audit trails when decisions are challenged.

And what an irony.

Legal teams...the guardians of compliance for everyone else are gambling with their own.

My view? 

Adopting AI without strategy isn’t innovation.
It’s negligence.

The real disruption won’t come from the technology..

..It’ll come from the fallout.

A message to every aspiring lawyer:  
 
Career progression just got harder than ever.  

A recent UK High Court ruling: Mazur case
changed how the next generation of lawyers will train.

Here’s what happened:

A trainee solicitor, supervised by a qualified lawyer, helped manage a client’s case.

The opposing party challenged it, arguing she had no right to conduct litigation.

The Court agreed.

The judgment confirmed that only qualified solicitors can run a case, even if a trainee or paralegal is fully supervised.

For decades, that’s how junior lawyers learned.

Drafting, managing files, sending correspondence, doing the work.

That’s how confidence, judgment & capability is built.

Now?
AI is doing the groundwork.
Solicitors are doing the advocacy.
& regulation says trainees can’t do either.

👉 So where do tomorrow’s lawyers actually learn?

When regulation restricts experience
& technology replaces repetition,
you remove the training field where lawyers used to grow.

If juniors can no longer learn by doing,
we’ll need to reinvent how they learn at all.

The question isn’t who can act today.

It becomes:
Who will still know how to tomorrow?

Efficiency may scale a firm.
But talent sustains a profession.

So ask yourself:
Are you chasing algorithms, or are you building authority

Last week, I spoke at a law school in Peru.

3 years ago, I couldn’t have done it.

Academics. 
Managing partners. 
Students.
Eyes on me. At ESAN Business Law 

I wouldn't have known what to say or how to say it. And that would have made me terrified.

But last week, I shared what I’ve learned:

After 100s of conversations on my podcast & nearly 2 decades around this profession.

Here’s what I told them:

The profession isn’t being replaced.
It’s being redefined.

- Junior roles are changing (AI & regulation).
- Companies are investing heavily in AI & skills.
- Many lawyers aren’t leaving because of technology but because of lack of flexibility, burn out, lack of career progression. 

What used to guarantee stability now demands evolution.

What used to be certainty is now choice.

But law isn’t narrowing.
It’s expanding...

into strategy, business, tech, leadership, creativity.

Standing there in Peru, 
I realised something.

AI may be transforming how we work,
but it’s real conversations that transform how we THINK.

It’s those conversations (100s of them)
that helped me connect the dots, 
draw conclusions 
& share ideas 
with people across the globe.

And maybe that’s the irony in all of this.

AI is powerful, but it’s still human CURIOSITY that moves us forward.

Everyone talks about chasing dreams.

But hardly anyone talks about the COSTS.

It’s easy to write down what you want:
Partnership. 
Recognition. 
Financial milestones.

But every single one comes with a price tag.

Time. 
Energy. 
Missed opportunities. 
Freedom traded away.

When I was in law, I thought I wanted the big titles.

But what it really cost me was 7 years of a version of myself I barely recognised.

The truth is, the result is never the hard part.

The hard part?
Deciding whether you’re willing to PAY the price.

For me, the cost of the traditional path in law was too high.

So I chose another.

A business that gives me freedom & creativity.

The kind of autonomy that makes the trade-offs worth it.

So when you set your next big goal, don’t just ask:
“What do I want?”

Ask:
“What am I willing to pay for it?”
