With over 20 years of experience in international relations, human rights, and policy analysis, I am passionate about supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the Caribbean region. As an Asylum Capacity Development Officer at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, I work with national authorities and partners to develop and implement quality assurance initiatives, tools, and recommendations for asylum institutions and procedures. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, having a verified international academic qualification in law and a certification in humanitarian response. In my most recent role, I was responsible for implementing a quality assurance project in the Northern, Central, and Eastern Caribbean region, resulting in reports providing diagnostic and recommendations for each asylum institution. I also supported the government asylum bodies in adopting and executing action plans, assessing budget needs, and generating tools for refugee status determination (RSD) procedures, such as interviewing and assessment templates, country of origin information depositories, and risk analysis frameworks. I applied my international relations, human rights, and policy analysis skills to provide effective and evidence-based solutions for enhancing asylum capacity and protection in the region.
