ChatGPT is slowly becoming my go-to when I need help with SQL

And you only need to know a handful to be a Data Analyst

Here are the ones I use daily:

- SUM
- SUMIFS
- COUNTIFS
- XLOOKUP
- UNIQUE

Knowing these have made building spreadsheets so much more streamlined

Here are some that I often use (not daily):

- IMPORTRANGE
- QUERY
- SORT
- IF
- IFERROR

These can be useful when gathering data and manipulating it in a way that you need

And of course, when you become more advanced, you will start to wrap functions around other functions to make them more dynamic

Choose the right chart type for your dashboards

Knowing which ones to use can help you be a better Data Analyst

Here's a breakdown:

- Line Chart: Show trends over time
- Bar Chart: Show comparisons between categories
- Stacked Bar Chart: Show the composition of data within categories
- Pie Chart: Show the proportion of each category in relation to the whole
- Heatmap: Show the concentration of data in a two-dimensional space.
- KPI: Show totals and percentages

There are so many more types but these are the most common

You will likely use at least one of those in every dashboard you create

Having the right charts in your dashboard can help you communicate the data in a clearer way

- Connect with the recruiter with a note (not the auto-generated note)
- Email the recruiter
- Make your presence memorable by updating your profile if they check you out
- Make your resume stand out by doing something different with formatting
- Start posting to attract attention instead of the other way around

Learn spreadsheets if you want to break into data analytics

One is better than the other

Here's a breakdown...

Excel:

- Cost: Subscription-based
- Collab: Limited (mainly through shared files)
- Accessibility: Installed on a desktop

Google Sheets:

- Cost: Free
- Collab: Real-time edits with multiple people
- Accessibility: Cloud-based

This is why I love Google Sheets over Excel

Functions are so close that knowing one vs. the other doesn't matter much

But Excel does have better formatting and visuals

The best one would be whichever one best suites your needs as a Data Analyst

Highly visible collaborative team? Probably Google Sheets

Project-based and more dashboard-related work? Probably Excel
