•	Involved in business development, as the owner had just taken over from the previous owners.
•	Assigned to projects such as identifying short, medium, and long term goals for the company and seeing them through.
•	Met suppliers to widen frame range, and to get best possible deals on lenses for the practice. 
•	Sat in on interviews for potential D/O and managers. 
•	Saw through the implementation of a new software (Optix) and used my experience of Optix to help the staff get trained on the software.
•	Maintained accounting side of the business, and implementing cost cutting and profit maximization strategies whilst minimizing disruption to the business and the patients’ comfort levels.
•	Further developed my interaction skills with patients by resolving their queries.

•	Purchased and setup a domiciliary care franchise straight after graduating from university, to provide care for the elderly in the Watford area
•	Conducted various research projects into how the market operates and the different regulations involved. Gained a lot of valuable experience through talking to the general public, the local council, and other companies to get valuable information, and carried out interviews for recruitment purposes.

I’ve been actively using LinkedIn for just over a year and have had the pleasure of connecting with hundreds of new followers.

In a nutshell, I am passionate about looking after people’s eyes.

Why?

Because vision is so important. 

It’s how we work, play and experience the world around us.

I especially help organisations understand the importance of healthy screen practices and encourage staff to be checked on a regular basis.

One of my favourite things to do are sports vision tests for local teams.
(Big up Middlesex County Cricket Club).

Outside work, I’m a huge footie and cricket fan, love travelling and getting involved with my local community.

My recent attendance at an optical trade show was rejuvenating.

I’d recommend that any business owner skip an office day to attend relevant industry events.

It not only refreshes you but there’s so much to learn.

Technology is changing rapidly, and it’s almost scary.

And I’m glad I went because we have a couple of clients with very specific requirements whose solutions are unavailable in the open market.

I bumped into several suppliers who could provide what I was looking for, and now I can give my clients exactly what they need.

It’s opportunities galore out there.

Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and explore.

You could be one conversation away from something big.

30% of people who experience sight loss also experience reduced employment.

And the trajectory is not heading in the right direction.

More and more people are losing their sight. 

Currently, over 2bn are affected globally.

It’s now becoming crucial for workplaces to invest in vision wellness programs. 

This can be as simple as:

- Choosing a partner who screens employees
- Having a vision checklist - lighting, screen settings, distance from screen etc
- Inviting vision experts to discuss healthy vision practices

And there are economic returns in doing this.

I am proud to say that my home country, Kenya, is taking eye health seriously and is implementing treatments for cataracts, myopia, and presbyopia.

And for every dollar they spend in treatment, they are returning up to $15 in economic returns.

This could be in the form of a boost in productivity, reduced hiring costs as staff stick around for longer and overall happier staff.

Taking vision health seriously has positive impacts all around.

The longer employers sleep on this, the more costly it will be to turn things around.
